Well it will be my annual trip to ND for a game. I see the long range weather forecast is for rain and cold. They must have thought Sid was coming. The last game I got rained on was with Sid! Well maybe they are wrong. Tailgating just isn't that much fun when it's cold and rainy. Cold is great, wet is not! :)

Not sure what Stanford defense we will be getting, the one that sacked and harassed Matt Barkley into a loss or the one that gave up a ton of points and yardage to Arizona.

I think that Stanford QB is very good and he's got good recievers and they still run the ball very well. So this will be another big challenge for our defense. I would be shocked if we hold them without a TD.

On offense I hope the game vs Miami was a turning the corner game for them. Golson threw the ball crisply added some runs and our OL did a good job of giving the RB's room to work. Stanford I believe though, inspite of the game with AZ, has a very good and tough defense. They have physically handled us the last 3 years. It's time that stopped. I think we will be seeing more of Cierre Wood and GAIII than Theo from here on out. Nothing against Theo but I would kind of like to see what Cam McDaniel can do in the regular rotation and maybe move Theo back to the slot.

Well the oddsmakers have us favored at home in this one but I'm not as sure as they are. It's time we beat this team. It will be tough. These guys don't make many mistakes and playing in SB never has seemed to bother them and I don't think it will saturday either. Unlike Miami, they are not gonna back off the first time you knock them on their butt. The Irish will have to jump on them and stay on them for four quarters. They will score some points so our offense needs to show up again. With some good defense and a little luck, we may be able to pull this off.</t>

NBC is smiling. The two items below were obtained from tweets by Brian Hamilton, Chicago Tribune:

-The ND-Miami game was watched by 3.7 million viewers, up 76% from last year's Shamrock Series game vs. Maryland (2.1 million viewers).

-Through 3 games this season, viewership of NBC's coverage of ND football is up 45% from last year (4.2 million vs. 2.9 million).

The second item doesn't specify which 3 games. I assume it's Navy, Purdue, and Michigan. I also assume it's per-game # of viewers.

NBC games this year have been Purdue, Michigan and Miami. Navy was a CBS game and Mich State was an ABC team.

When you go back in the record books for TV ratings in the day when ABC controled the "Sat Game of the Week" Notre Dame had more the 50% of the highest rated games in history. Since then of course the ratings game has changed so much so that it's impossible to compare era's in terms of viewership.

Oops! I knew about the Navy game being on CBS. Like so many ND fans over in Ireland, I found it hard to remember that it was not our home game.

It looks like Stanford will be without its top WR for the game:

    Montgomery Out for ND Game

FWIW, I don't consider this a big plus. They've got lots of offensive weapons, especially the big (6'8"?) TE, Toilolo (sp?), and the RB.

    Nice picture but....
    1. Did they have to use the Shamrock helmets?
    2. Is this why we keep the natural grass at the stadium?

Stanford is a lot like ND. Huge TEs, physical defense; the Oline blocks hard and the running backs run hard. Stanford physically manhandled USC. I've watched that game twice and it was no fluke. They have an NFL coach who runs an NFL offense and defense. They're good and they're for real. I'm glad that Luck is gone and the game is in South Bend...

Wait a minute now....Gipper and Sid....seems to me a little officiating Deja Vu happened in that game...(remembering that it wasn't extra innings, and the Card's had the lead in the game at the time of the call, and wasn't in a OT situation mind you)...just wondering if you agreed with the blatantly wrong call (even after video review) of that play?

HEY!!...be cool now...I've broken bread with both of you.... :) 8)

Let's see now....do we agree with the call made by the refs from Stanford's conference the PAC 12 and upheld by the replay official from the conference we just told we're leaving (the Big East)

My advice to Stanford is "bring better refs next time."

Also note in this replay that the runners elbow probably hit the ground before the ball went over the goal line. Only a Cornhusker would reverse the call based on this evidence. :)
