Oops. Typing on an iPhone is not by best skill. Make that Modern Mopar! We found out that her car is quicker and faster. But not enough to offset my superior reaction time. Give her time though and she may beat me some day.
I finally had to race someone else to win. Damn that man is fast on the light. I had lot's of fun for my first ever time drag racing.
Pictures are coming. We did not stop to take pictures but there was a photographer there that we purchased prints from and he is sending us the digital copies. For Scott and Kesley mostly, I am posting the rest of this message: You have to understand… I have not been on a drag strip in 24+ years and am driving a 6 speed car that absolutely refuses to hook up. Cindy has basically the same car with Automatic and wider F1 tires (much better traction). We both posted our best runs on the same pass: 105.21 mph 13.9197 ET and .0458 reaction time and 2.4844 60 ft time for me 106.94 mph 13.4460 ET and .6644 reaction time and 2.1974 60 ft time for Cindy You can tell by the 60 ft times that I am not hooking up. Cindy was coming on me like a freight train as evidenced by the margin of finish. I beat her by .1449 seconds with her speed being 1.73 mph higher than mine. Honestly, unless I buy a set of Nitto Drag Radials NT05R I will be toast as soon as she gets her reaction times down.
Going to Sealy Texas on 19-Oct to run the Lonestar <del>Molar</del> Mopar Fest 2012. Cindy and I both will be going and participating in 1/4 mile and road course events.
If you're running street tires, especially anything but pure performance summer tires, 2.5 60' isn't too bad, though you should be able to get that down to 2.1 consistently with a stickier summer tire I would imagine. RT of .0458?? I assume you meant 0.458? Most trees I've seen (never dragged my bike, so don't take this as being an expert) have 0.5 as the perfect launch, but some are 0.4. So either you meant 0.0458 beyond the perfect launch, which is damn good. Or, you meant 0.458 on a 0.4 tree, which is still pretty good at just under half a second.
I'll take as 0.0458 slower than "perfect" reaction, which is pretty friggin' good. I assume you did more than one run? What your the rest of you RTs?
Reaction Time. It's the time between when the tree shows green to start the run, and the car leaves the trap. To show the naked performance of the car, it can be subtracted from the 1/4 ET to compare between different drivers. Another baseline is the 60 foot time, which gives an indication of the traction and control early in the run which has a big impact on the full run as well. Lower on both, of course, is better.
RT=Reaction Time... How long it takes for your wheel to move out of the pre-staged beam. My worst was .6010. I forgot to turn off traction control and reached for the button. Looked up and the second (of two) yellow light was already lit. The others were .1007 and .1109. Those two were the first two runs. The .0458 was the lat run
Here's a site with an applet that allows you to test your RT: http://www.quikclikrt.com/ I ranged from 0.06-0.17 on my ten "runs". 0.0458 is pretty quick for an older-than-me fart! It's also interesting to note that with this tests, the RT will likely be better than at the tree. The motion of a finger pushing a button is less than the motion pushing the pedal (and releasing the clutch). Not only that, but there is "slop" in a car as well, which adds a bit to the reaction time if you don't nail the tree.[/url]
SWEET!!! That is way cool. Tom... you gotta modulate that throttle on street tires.. you can't just hammer it and hope for the best. If you're going to do this often, you probably want some drag tires anyway... I can't imagine you want to replace your daily drivers every few months! I took my wife for a mini vacation down south of Kerrville this past weekend. Found a stretch of State highway 16 that is NUTS with switchbacks. Try it sometime if you get a chance Tom. Tell me how it compares to the Dragon.
