I hope Cabrera wins the triple crown. It's not that I'm a huge fan of his. It's that it's such a rare feat, it hasn't been done since 1967......almost half a century. I did some research. The last 5 triple crowns were in the AL. The last NL player to win it was Joe Medwick in 1937. 1967 - Carl Yastrzemski 1966 - Frank Robinson 1956 - Mickey Mantle 1947 - Ted Williams 1942 - Ted Williams It's interesting that there were two in a row in 1966 & 67, then none for 45 years to this point.
Cabrera plays in a home ballpark that is not home run friendly. On top of that he's a line drive hitter. He hits balls that clear the fence at 420 ft. that seem to never get more than 10 ft. off the ground. He's a hitting machine.
 It will be interesting if he wins the Triple Crown, but doesn't win the AL MVP. Mike Trout of the Angels is having a season not seen since Ty Cobb...
Cabrera leads the Tigers to division championship tonight. 4 hits with a HR. Winning the Triple Crown would be quite an achievement when you consider that Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, and Roberto Clemente never could accomplish it.
Trout has had a very good year and looks to have a big future but if Cabrera wins the TC AND leads his team to a division title I don't know how he could not be the MVP.
Just a couple of other observations Cabrera's stats Hits 203 Doubles 40 HRs 44 RBIs 137 Only 2 other players have had those stats in a season. Ruth and Gehrig. Because I was curious, I looked up all of the Triple Crown winners since 1900. They are: Nap Lajoie, Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Chuck Klein, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Joe Medwick, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Frank Robinson, and Carl Yastrzemski. Every one of those greats is in the Hall of Fame.
On my InsideTexas Board there are a lot of Rangers fans, one of them said he thought Trout was the real MVP, that the TC was just an arbitrary set of stats that somebody decided 100 years ago was a big deal.
The Tigers couldn't have made the playoffs without Cabrera. The Angles could have missed the playoffs without Trout.
IMO there is no wrong decision between Trout and Cabrera. Both are deserving. Whoever gets the award, to say that those who voted for the other guy were wrong would be downright stupid.
re: Trout The Angels missed the playoffs, because Trout was in the minor leagues during the first month of the season... I agree with Sid. Either of them is OK with me.
 When AJ and I went down to the Big A to see the Angels and the Giants, we both expected to see the best player in baseball...Albert Pujols. We were shocked at the play of this kid Mike Trout. He was easily the best player in that game and one of the greatest players I've ever seen, despite being only 20 years-old at that time. Like Babe Ruth, he's his own category. There's nothing to really compare him with... As for Cabrera, if he wins the MVP, that's fine. Anyone who wins a Triple Crown should certainly be considered for it, but remember that many Triple Crown winners DIDN'T win the MVP. Ted Williams won two Triple Crowns and wasn't named MVP either time! Rogers Hornsby won two Triple Crowns and he wasn't named MVP either time as well! Hank Greenberg once had 100 RBIs at the All-Star break and didn't make the American League All-Star team, because the league had two other 1st basemen named Gehrig and Foxx. These things happen in sports sometimes, because at that level, being good isn't always good enough. Now having said that, I still don't care which one wins, because they both deserve it...
