Congrats to the Irish! Very, very impressive win....frankly I thought that Sparty was going to just out-physical you and have their way up front. How wrong I was.... tells me alot about this Irish team. Well done....
Hey I highly compliment the Irish...which has been seldom for me admittedly.....and look whut happens......
My three homeboys - Eifert, Goodman, and Springmann - had a positive impact on the game. This week, because he was double-teamed the entire game, Eifert did it with his blocking. Goodman's catch was a thing of beauty. Springmann made his presence felt when he was in there. Two other Indiana kids, Day and Smith, also contributed. Day is going to be a good one. I just hope he tones down his celebrations lest he hurt himself. A writer said that in the first quarter, ND played 55 of the 73 players brought on the trip. It's a long season, but this game established what we are capable of doing if we bring our "A" game every week. Terry, I also thought it was classy that the MSU players expressed their condolences to Te'o. Thanks for posting the video. I got choked up at the end when Te'o received the golden game ball for defense.
First big test of the season passed. It's going to be tough to play at that level for a second week in a row. We were 1 for 14 on third downs and that is terrible. Special teams really played well. The defense was outstanding. The O line is the big problem. We've got to be able to run effectively on first down.
It's a shame about Slaughter's injury. I feel bad for the 5th year kid, unable to participate in the resurgence of the program. Having said that, next man up.
I'm all about the next man up theory, especially when our coach is truly practicing what he preaches. At the same time, Jeez Louise how many DBs have we lost this year to injury? What is this, the 4th projected/actual starter to be lost to season ending injury?? We're going to be able to sell this in recruiting as immediate PT even when it doesn't seem to be available, and I am enjoying watching the kids grow before our eyes, but gosh... Collingsworth, Wood, Slaughter.. is there someone else? man, you never know when you'll get your chance. It's a great example of never knowing when you'll get your chance at the big time.
DBs <t>Corey,

You are right about PT for DBs. If you are a top HS DB still on ND list you gotta know ."I'm gonna get some serious PT right from the get go if I go to ND". By the way, the freshmen like Russell and Shumate are doing more than you would expect given their lack of experience at this point.

Also how about Sheldon Day?! Is this kid everything and more than advertized on that D-Line?!!!!! I love this guy!

The performance of whole front seven is something we haven't seen in a loooooooooog time at ND. Nasty boys!

Fans may not like Kelly but his defensive recruiting is paying off big time. It's alost giving our new QB and the offense time to get it together.</t>
We haven't discussed the mysterious insertion of Tommy Rees at the end of the game for a series. Kelly said it was because he wanted to run the ball and run some clock and wanted the more experienced guy in there at that point. Now ok Tommy is more experienced, but he's also comming off the bench cold and Everett has not turned the ball over at all during the game and in fact has protected the ball very well through 3 games. While Tommy has a history of making some killer turnovers. Everett comes back in to finish the game and do the kneel downs. I don't get it.
Tim makes too much damn sense .... he makes some of us look bad. We may have to have a board meeting. We have a board, don't we?
I'm pretty sure at the end of his interview with Heather Cox he mouthed "screw you O'Keefe"....little does he know I'm his last line of defense against Krebs and his people!
I see where the Orange Bowl is close to a deal with Notre Dame, the ACC, the Big 10, and the SEC. Here are the specifics per a report from ESPN.com:
If the worst decision Kelly made all day was to put in Rees for mop up duty at the end of a sealed deal football game, I'll take that every single week. Tim, Good points!
That Orange Bowl deal looks good if the Irish have a good season but miss the playoffs. The B1G team and SEC team would at best be their #2 teams, and at worst their #3 teams. Would certainly give the Irish a slight edge if we have a team that is good but not top 4.
