Fitzy, My youngest son is bouncing at the Tiki Bar this summer. They had Ronnie Ortiz from the cast in their the other night. He was by himself and behaving for a change. Last night Al Leiter was in with his kids. He behaved too. 8) Carlo is a nice kid. He was totally legal at this party at John Goodman's rental. He wan't even hanging out with Rees. He was with one of the Golics and an offensive lineman. He came on the Rees arrest right at the end when they were putting him in the back of the cruiser. is mistake was interjecting himself verbally in a situation that did not concern him.
Nice...family friend are tight with tiki owner. Wife is management behind the scenes. Leiter played hs ball with owner too. Least your son gets to work till 2 am and no ridiculous midnite closing. Read on local gossip sites tiki bar bouncers cracking heads of unruly patrons so I guess your son doing good job....ha
A couple of things Just to clarify my comments on Deeb being compared to Carlo and why I wasn't excited. No doubt Carlo has a high motor and gives it all but his play in pass coverage is just average at best and is why he's been sharing time with Fox. So when I read that Deeb is a lot like Carlo then that's great that he must have a high motor and drive to be good, but I worry that it also means that he'll be a liability in pass coverage. Also we picked up our first and earliest commit ever this past week in 2014 LB commit Greer Martini from Va. Guys who watch film like this kid. But he won't be on campus till summer of 2014...so long way to go.
We haven't had good cover corners in decade its seems. That puts a lot of pressure on the LBs to cover speedy WRs and slot backs slashing across the middle. You can't expect a hell of a lot of great coverage out of guys who ar 6'2" and 250 +. Carlo's touches on pass defense exceed Fox and are not that far behind Teo who is no great shakes in pass coverage either. I'm saying its the system more than the player.
Well a lot of holding bated breath today by Irish recruiting fans....it's suposed to be a lock that Alex Anzalone the LB from PA. He'd previously committed to Ohio State and then backed out, just a week or so ago it was reported that he'd had a great time at his Penn State visit and that he would announce soon for them. But this week the speculation circled back to the Irish being at the top of his list due to his friendship with Mike Heuerman the TE from Fla whoi is an Irish commit. He's fast rising up the LB ranks, he's out in Oregon now for "The Opening" and Rivals rated him the #4 defensive player at the combine behind the #1 Defensive player in Jaylon Smith. Might be later today. I'm sure we'll hear from Tim!!
Wowza. You can't have enough all-world LBs. The one's who don't start at LB will become special teams demons and some will move down to the DL. This is fantastic!
Alex Anzalone #24 - Offense and Defense: this kid is a wow. <object><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dh9Cg9UQluA?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dh9Cg9UQluA?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
I have to say that what ever criticism anybody might have of Kelly, the man has put together a great recruiting machine. Think about it, he's gotten tons of bad pub via that purple faced yelling fit he had on TV, then there was the whole his guys vs Weis guys thing, the death of the Sullivan kid, the bad losses to USC last year where he was accused of quiting at the end of the game. Then throw in all the usual stuff with ND academics, ND weather, ND in South Bend, ND athletes have to live in dorms, lack of "diversity" at ND, supposed lack of party life and hot chicks compared to other schools. And first 2 years being so so, even though the finish of the first year had everybody ready to drink the Koolaid, that was quashed by the unforgivable loss to USF, the collapse against Mich. Yet here we are with a top 10 recruiting class in the formation. If he somehow can solve the QB problem and we have a good year vs a very tough schedule and maybe even pull of the upset at USC or Oklahoma the recruiting could go off the charts. Of course not solve the QB problem, get hammered by USC and OU and lose some other games to end up say 6-6 and maybe some of these kids decide ND isn't the place fo them after all.
Anzalone <t>O.K. Terry, you beat me on this one.<br/> <br/> The Irish picked up a nice one today. Alex Anzalone, LB from PA committed today. <br/> <br/> He had been a Oh St. commit at once time. Looks like a very nice LB haul for the Irish in this class!</t>
Kelly's recruiting is very, very good but he has to prove he can close the deal. Signing day is a long way off. I really want to jump on the Kelly bandwagon but I have to see it.
No doubt Kelly still hasn't proved on the field that he is going to get the job done. I thought maybe he'd turned that corner with the USC win on the road and then the Sun Bowl victory. But instead we got a pie in the face vs USF and Michigan to start the season and then a couple more from USC and Stanford to finish the season ...the coup was coughing up the bowl game. This is why I am so surprised that recruiting is going so well.
