I really did not nknow what to expect last night. We have a number of offensive weapons, but I was concerned some about our defense, first away game, etc.

Tressel was willing to open things up early and Troy Smith looked great. Gonzalez had a great game with a record number of catches.

Ted Ginn close behind and one beautiful catch for a TD.

Tressell wanted to substitute liberally and did so thru out the game.

The Horns were relentless in stopping our rushing attack, somewhat of a surprise to me.

Our defense was pretty much riddled by Charles and the option. Colt McCoy took some real hard hits and looks like he has a great future.

Punting and kick off were fabulous! Nugent really spoiled us with his field goal accuracy.

I still question the penalty called on Jay Richardson for hitting Mat McCoy. He was hit just as he released the ball, but I did not see any head snap back on the helment to helment call?

Anyway a great game for the Buckeyes and put an end to Texas's 21 game winning streak.

    YEP....

<t>It was a no doubter to say the least. Programs like OSU can lose nine off their defense and not miss a beat. Should be a great year for you guys as long as you keep Smith upright then like Texas last year with Young you you lose him and there is trouble in river city.<br/>

    Great job by the Buckeyes.</t>

The Boys are probably still in the air as they had late flights today out of Austin.

A few observations. First of all the Buckeyes were clearly the better team, I was very impressed with Troy Smith he made a lot of different throws and showed me arm strength and touch. That TD to Ginn, while he was open of course, requires some touch. How many times have we all seen our teams QB over throw a open reciever who is running away from him. Smith threw on the run, he threw from the dropback. He really didn't run the ball, but his mobility kept us from getting consistent pressure on him. Secondly, inspite of the Buck defense giving up some yards running the ball for the 2nd week in a row, I think those guys are going to be alright. The Combo of a highly efficeint offense with a pretty good defense is going to win a lot of games.

I was disappointed that esp in the last couple of minutes of the 1st half that after scoring a tying TD, the Longhorn defense allowed you guys to quickly move down the field for score. I really thought our defense would play better, I don't know how much losing our starting corner hurt to tell you the truth but we have recruited so well that it really shouldn't have made all that much difference. A lot of Texas folks are getting on Greg Davis our OCoord for playing it too safe, playing to not lose. He's been the target of fan criticism in the past, it cooled with VY, but it will be back in spades if this keeps up.

But this is not a season killing loss, sure it means that we have a tough road to go for a return trip to the NC game. But beat OU and win the B12 championship and this will have been a very succesfull season. Undefeated seasons are kind of hard to come by. Lose to OU, with the same kind of offensive effort and there will be major league unhappiness around Austin.

As far as the Boys from the North and their visit. I think they enjoyed themselves, they got some good authentic Tex/Mex and Texas BBQ. They got to see the party scene in downtown Austin up close and personal and I think they will tell you they saw large contingent of gorgeous young ladies dressed very sexily out on the town Thurs and Friday Night. And we are not talking strippers either!!

Personally it's always a pleasure to be around Stu and G-Man. They are an easy bunch, keep Stu's cigar lit and Gerry's beer cold and they are happy! Gerry had his grandson Josh along to carry his beer cooler, it was pretty heavy so I was glad we had a strong youngster to do that, I would have wilted pretty quickly!!

We ended up with some great seats and tailgated in the "exclusive" End Zond Club before the game and watched the 2nd half of the ND game, after the Irish victory I was happy for the rest of the night win or loss for the 'horns.

One thing about old guys drinking is that you always have to know where the john is, we don't last long without having to take a leake!! :)

I heard from Stu tonight, he's still not home. Apparently the Airlines canceled some flights, including his hoping to get some more of the Buckeye money spent in Austin! :) He said he'll have a full report when he gets home, finally!! :)

Hmmmmmmmm. I detect a trend here. I once had problems getting in and out of Austin. They flew me all over Texas, flying directly OVER Austin to Houston and then back again in a storm. Funny how the Texans like Terry just go home, but the out-of-staters get the grand tour...
