Concussions are rarely the result of a single blow or incident. They are the result of cumulative activities that usually result in one blow, bump etc that triggers it. I'm not surprised that many of them have resulted from falls either. Without coming off like a sexist pig... Women do not know how to use their head.. They aren't taught to take a fall. They aren't properly taught to use their body. In fact, every woman's soccer game I've seen from youth and up to world cup level soccer has women who are very 'hippy' in their contact when using their body to shield or compete for the ball.

Like I said, it's a matter of conditioning and training. In my opinion, women get a lot of shitty training..

If all the women on this board jump you and beat the crap out of you, we're just going to stand here and watch...

How do you answer the question..does this make my ass look big? :)

like Lauren and Hardy you two... you know exactly what I mean by that. I don't actually subscribe to the differences in physical anatomy although I am sure to a tiny extent that plays in.. It has to do with training, conditioning and how they are taught to use their body in play. Whenever I watch women play it's obvious to me. You can disagree, but you'd be wrong.

BTW, any commentary about our men getting their ass kicked by Brazil yet I am still happy with what I saw on the pitch? I like the attitude this team plays with... if we can continue to build on that, we may not win the cup but we may well shock the world come cup time. For the first time in my life, we have a coach and a direction that expects to win and expects to compete at the highest level..I'm pretty giddy.

I was also happy watching Mexico. That is quite possibly the most talented Mexican team in the history of the nation and they are young young young... The upside? They are Mexicans.. their lack of composure and defensive breakdowns warmed my soul.. Hopefully, they don't hire a real coach to groom those young men.

The Brazil game was just too depressing to write about. The Brasilieros were so good that they exposed a major weakness in our otherwise very good team: our back row defenders are hopelessly out-matched against a world-class offense. It was a horror show. Simple set pieces like corner kicks found Brazillian forwards parked all alone directly in front of the net with no defender in sight to help the goalie...

There are 5 teams in the world with more talent than anyone. Brazil is #1. We're a top 25 team. I think we could even be a top 10 club come Cup time... but we are generations away from ever being as good as Brazil... literally, generations..

(in case anyone wants to know the other 4 they are: Spain, Argentina, Italy and Portugal) I am sure people will argue Germany, but no.. not right now. Either way, Brazil is in a class all by themselves even in that list of clubs above... think about that.

I thought the Dutch and the Germans were traditionally the top of Euro Soccer.

In Europe, Germany and Italy have always been the top tier. A small step down would be Spain and England, with a third tier of Holland, Portugal and France.

    ..........IMHO

Historically, you guys are right. As far as what is on the field right now.. Spain is the most talented team in Europe.. Portugal is insanely talented but always find a way to choke.. that doesn't mean they aren't still insanely talented... and then there's Italy.. There's always Italy.

I just watched Holland get bested by Bulgaria 2-1. Holland was clearly more talented but Bulgaria was a better team. They have questions in Holland and they aren't THAT talented this year.. Germany just got their ass kicked by Switzerland. There's questions in the Fatherland...

Just read an interesting article....EPL is one of the best if not the best soccer leagues in the world...but the UK itself is not that great a soccer nation. Why his that?

The Ireland-Croatia game was fun to watch.

The shortest Croat player seemed to be taller than the tallest Irish.

I am a futbol neophyte so I 'll let Jo Co and Corey educate me as to the finer points of this match but it seemed that while the Croats had the edge over the Irish in the skill level of their players, the Croatians looked relieved to get off the field with the limbs intact and might look forward to playing a friendly home and away series against the Serbs rather than meet up again with those 11 hornets playing for team Ireland.

I am not saying they were dirty because they were not but only that the Irish players sure as hell did not shy away from physically contesing any free ball against the bigger Croats.

Pretty hard road for Ireland who will now probabaly have to beat the last two World Cup champions to get into the quarterfinals

Don't forget that the national sport of Ireland is not soccer...it's this!

Now if they just let the soccer team have hurling bats! :)

I was a little concerned that my comments regarding the short but ferorcious nature of the Irish team might be viewed as sterotyping so I did a little internet research. The following list from blog Eire Rules at least provided a tiny bit of data support ( see most popular cars) and some other interesting info:

    Brilliant!

re: Irish report the fewest UFO sightings in Europe.
    - That's because we know where they are! UFO is an Irish band.

re: The average height of Irish men is 5' 7".
    - I'm 5' 11.75" and I'm the smallest man in my family.

re: 70% of married Irish women would consider having an affair while on a foreign holiday without their spouse or children. 90% of all Irish men would do the same.
    - Everybody wants to screw the Italians: they deserve it.

re: Cat's now out number dogs by two to one as Ireland's most popular pet.
    - Cats poop on the neighbor's lawn, so you don't have to clean it up. We always have a plan.

re: 58% of practicing Catholics see the church as outdated and in need of reform.
    - Only 58%?

    re: Ireland vs. Croatia

What you saw was correct. The Croats simply have a better team. Remember, the Irish have two other forms of football that are more popular than soccer: Gaelic football and Hurling. This pretty much leaves the smaller lads to try their hand at the international game. As you saw, what they lack in finesse, they make up for in shear thuggery and hooliganism. :p
