Vintage Tiger today, strangle the field at a critical moment with an impossible shot. That flop on #16 is just indescribable, not because it was so hard but so much was riding on it and it would have been easier to hit in the water than to hit in the hole. Had to take tremendous nerves to make that swing. Then again in vintage Tiger, he nails the iron on the 18th and drains the putt to put an explanation on the win. Spencer Levin...how many bunkers did he hit it off the tee today? Tiger has to be the big favorite now at the Open. Of course after his win in Fla it was the same.
You've been a big doubter for some time Terry. Think he can win more majors? The big difference I see is that he doesn't destroy the par 5's anymore.
I think he can win another major now, based on what I saw at Bay Hill and Today. I thought today he played very controlled and calculating, and if he'd been putting just a little better he'd have finished -12. I'm not sure though he can win 5 more majors.
How great is he? He played with Ricky Fowler and I'm not sure they showed on shot of Fowler's or even mentioned his name. Tiger has only won twice but he has been a regular on leader boards. That means he can win majors as far as I'm concerned.
I have to admit I enjoyed watching Tiger come back in the final four holes for that win! I think he has an excellent chance of besting Sam Sneed;s all time wins of 82 if he stays healthy.
I think catching Sam Snead is very likely, he's only 36 and is likely to win a couple every year through his mid 40's. Remember Jack only won 5 times after turning 40, of course 3 of them were majors.
On a unrelated golf note. Texas won the NCAA Mens Golf Championship yesterday. Also, it'll be interesting to see if Spencer Levin qualifies for the US Open, he has to go 36 holes today and finish in the top 2 or 3.
It would not surprise me if Levin does not qualify in todays qualifying rounds. That may be a very diffulct feat following his frustrating finish yesterday in the Memorial Tournament. I think he may have spent his last nickel.
I was looking through the list of career wins leaders in the PGA. Tiger stands tied for second all time with Jack at 73 wins. Jack did it in 25 years on the tour while Tiger is in his 17th. Sam Snead is the standard bearer with 82 wins in 30 years. The only guy who really comes close to Woods with wins in the fewest years is Arnold with 62 wins in 19 years.
The stat about Tiger's victories isn't that unusual. Remember that for most of his career, he has played in a limited amount of tournaments. There are some like Arnie's or Jack's that he plays every year and some like the Hope where he doesn't play. He's played Torre Pines often both in Opens and the PGA tour stop there. He played there every year when Buick was sponsoring it. The Olympic Club is not a regular tour stop and the only PGA tournaments would be Open's and PGAs. (I call the Open a PGA tournament even though it's really a USGA event.) Since Tiger turned pro the only PGA tournament hosted by Olympic was the 1998 Open.
Cell Phones at tour events. Phil was supposedly so upset with the use of cell phone camera's during his round that he texted them. Cell Phones
