Watched Dayton vs. TX A&M on ESPN3. My niece's boyfriend is the Dayton closer. He was the MOP of the A-10 tournament. Although Dayton lost 4-1, he pitched the 8th vs. the 2,3,4 hitters for the Aggies. Three up, three down. The Flyers play TCU tomorrow in the elimination game. I'm surprised we haven't heard from the Gators. FL is the #1 seed in the tournament.
How about that game with Kent State defeating Kentucky in 21 innings? The Purdue Valpo game did not start until almost midnight.
Stu has to be proud of Purdue's winning season including the BIG TEN title plus the conference tournament. The Boilermakes will play Kent State this evening, after defeating Valipraiso last night.
I didn't know anyone but me was paying attention to the Regionals. That Kent St / KU game must've been DRAINING. I bet neither wins their next game. The Aggie bats have been on life support for about the last 4 weeks... our starting pitching is awesome tho, so it has carried us. Too bad Purdue's new stadium wasn't done... would have been nice for them to host there. Looks like some of the big guns struggled a little (FSU, Rice, LSU) so the door may be open for some new teams to make Omaha this year.
Scott, I had similar thoughts as to how that long game would affect the two teams. Kentucky came back strong with a win and Kent State upset Purdue this evening.
Watched both Purdue games. One big inning did us in (all with two outs). There was one borderline strike call that went the wrong way that would have made all the difference. Tough road now...have to beat Ky. this evening...they are an outstanding team. Then the winner has to take two from Kent State. Kent seems very underrated. Have now won 19 games in a row.
UCLA looks really tough out here. They began the year with the reputation as having the best pitching staff in the nation and so far, it appears that the #2 ranked Bruins are cruising with pitchers to spare...
Difficult way to end the season Stu, but still a very satisfying season for Purdue! Golden Flashes win regional by defeating Kentucky twice, no small feat for Kent State. They have now won 20 games straight and will paly in the Eugene Oregon Super Regional.
Rice and Texas A&M fail to advance from their own Regionals. I had figured both of them to locks for the CWS in Omaha.
Gators win their regional and awaiting the winner of today's game between Vanderbilt and NC State. Vandy beat the Gators twice in the SEC tournament to eliminate us from that tournament. They had the bases loaded and pulled a triple steal on us. I don't remember ever hearing of one of those before.
Not that big a surprise for the Aggies... the bats have been struggling for the last third of the season... and the suspect defense finally went with the bats. Rob might be in some trouble. He's been really good at developing pitching but been BAD at getting our offense anywhere near bigtime, and the defense tends toward mediocre. Not a great way to end the year, but it is what it is. Next year could be really bad for us. We lose our top two starters, and several of the decent bats that were on the roster.
Scott, losing your top two starters will hurt. I watched one of them Friday night. He's a stud. Stu, tough loss for Purdue. Sad end to the school's greatest baseball season in over a century. Hopefully, Coach Schreiber has some players with whom to reload next year.
Sid, it should be exciting next year with the new baseball stadium and all. Shreiber is a great coach...but the cupboard will really be depleted by departing seniors.
Kent State, Golden Flashes continue to be a giant killer in the Super Regionals. Last night they defeated Oregon 7-6 in the Eugene Regional first game.
And Stony Brook is giving LSU all they can handle. Final game is today. Would love to see them make it in...
GO STONY BROOK! They beat Miami at Miami, and they beat LSU 2 games to 1 in front of 10,000+ rabid LSU fans. David is traveling to Omaha to face the so-called Goliaths. GO SEAWOLVES!
re: NY Stony Brook That is amazing. I've never even seen them play. All I know about them is their fabulous academic reputation, which is also amazing for a school which isn't all that old... re: Wild West UCLA and Arizona are in. Keep an eye on the Bruins. They won't run out of pitchers.
