As of this point, it was clear Cal did not belong in the Top 10. Notre Dame is way overhyped as well. People act like their USC from the past couple of years( Especially on Offence), when the fact is.. its not even close.
Time will tell regarding Notre Dame. You seem very sure of yourself after one week. Of course, if by some chance you're wrong, you'll need to find a new place to post because life around here will be unbearable. By the way, offense is spelled with an "s". That I'm sure of!
Your right I probably got a little to carried away. These obnoxious ND fans around here(G-Ville) must of got to me. You'de think after listenting to them run their mouths for 10 minutes that their was no other team in college football and that they were sure to steamroll through their entire schedule like USC had done. After watching the first half i've come back to eat crow. I was wrong about them, at least for now. We'll see in the upcoming weeks what their made of. Again my apoligizes, Swamp  Go Gators!!
Swamp, You're listening to the wrong people. The real ND fans like those on this board have had a mega dose of humility over the past 8-10 years and are thankful to be back among the top teams in college football. You won't hear any ND fans I know comparing our team to the SoCal teams of the past few years. I've never heard that. I don't know where that kind of thinking comes from. Anyway, we got a good win today over a solid Penn State team. Next week, Michigan comes to town. No rest for the weary.
Swamp, <r>These ND fans here are not the bragging type. They're cautiously optimistic IMO. Even though I say screw that, they're back! <E></E></r>
8) This is a hard year to figure out, so I don't think there will be too much chest thumping by anyone for awhile yet. At this point, we're all still looking for a real Top 10. So far, I think Ohio State, USC and Notre Dame have emerged as top teams. After this Saturday, we could see Florida or Tennessee, Auburn or LSU, Oregon or Oklahoma, join them, and Michigan and Nebraska could crash the party too. The only "mystery" team out there is West Virginia, because they don't play anybody. I think this season could very well come down to the Thanksgiving Weekend games to unscramble the Top 10 and decide the BCS bowls... ...............JO'Co
ho hum, another fan claiming ND is over rated. It's almost like fans of other schools, never pay attention. I had a discussion with another Texas Alum who told me Notre Dame was the media darling and we were always overrated. I asked him, well was Texas Overated in 1969 and 1970? Hell no man those were great teams. Well the Overated Irish almost beat the 1969 team and did beat the 1970. Um ok. Was Texas a great Team in 1977 with Earl Campbell, um...yeah. You do know that Notre Dame beat that Texas team handily. um yeah. OK maybe ND isn't always overated but I still hate them!! What can you do. Then fast forward to 1992, Prodigy, some Gator fans were indignant over their great team having to play the Irish in the Sugar. Irish didn't belong in the bowl, Gators would kill them, they wouldn't win more than a couple of games if they played in the SEC. ummm big Irish Victory. Maybe the Gators wouldn't have won 4 games playing the Irish schedule. Fast forward to this thread....Irish are overated, they barely beat Ga.Tech yada yada yada, while author of the threads favorite team whups up on national powers like So. Miss and UCF at home, oh yeah that's a much tougher road than going on the road further away from home than the Gators have been in 30 years, and then comming home vs a tough Big 10 team with a veteran defense. Ovah rated...yeah sure. terry
You know before the season started I didn't think we were the #2 team in the nation with the questions on defense we had. But because just about everybody had some sort of questions, I thought we certainly deserved to be in the top 10 some place. Just because we didn't blast Ga.Tech by 40 points we're over rated? Gimme a break.
Gee That's not how they were looking at the game in Atlanta before it was played. They're media couldn't help but write about all the nobodies we beat last year and how we couldn't stop OSU (as though top teams like Tex. could?) And so now, they're in the pile of "nobodies" that we beat week to week.
maybe <t>its also possible that no other team of quality has played a 3 game run like ND.<br/> <br/> Wait until many of these pretenders play a few more schools with real teams and lets see what comes out in the wash.<br/> <br/> At the moment, I dont see anyone close to USC or Ohio State.</t>
I also don't see any teams close to USC or Ohio State. They seem to be opening up some distance on the rest of the field... Michigan may be pretty good with their new schemes on offense and defense. That OSU-UM game this year may be for the right to play in the NC game. The rest of the Big10 looks very weak, with the possible exception of Penn State later on... Texas also got blown out at home. I'm not convinced that they could beat Notre Dame and there's some other suspects in the Top 10... ............JO'Co
Texas plays Iowa State this week, they are an OK team not horrible, not a patsie, etc. But Colt McCoy only threw 8 passes against Rice. Now I know we got a lot of yards running the football, but if you saw how poor our passing game was vs Ohio State you would think that the coaches would want to work on the passing game a little more than that. Texas needs to both run and throw the ball well against Iowa State or maybe we are overated.
