Whisky's defeat of Ohio State here in Columbus yesterday put the nails on the coffin as far as the Big Ten Championship goes. We won the stats battle but lost the war. Every time we had a small run Wisconsin came right back and made plays and scored, even with solid defense by the Buckeyes. A very disappointing downward spiral and we have lost three of our last five games.
Hoosiers played a great game in Bloomington tonight and upset MSU to tighten up the Big Ten race again. Green had 29 points for the Spartans but no help. Indiana had a decided advantage from the charity stripe making 18 of 21.
Buckeyes win in Evanston against Northwestern, but barely by a whisker. While they lead by an average of 7-10 points most of the game, three turnovers in the last minute almost cost them the game. Sully put one in with seconds left for the win. 15 Turnovers was painful to watch.
A win is a win is a win....they are back in control of their own destiny. Beat Sparty at home and they can claim a share of the title. Nothing to it....! Stu, great to see Hummel getting his game back. Couldn't have come at a better time. I loved his comments during his Sr Night introduction....great to see a kid like that battle to overcome the adversity he has faced. I'm rooting for the kid every game but one!
Wild finish in the B1g Ten Conference season today with Ohio State beating MSU 72-70 in the final seconds, thanks to Buford's 25 points and winning shot. Michigan defeats Penn State and the three teams are tri champions this year.
WOW.....in my 50 years of following my Buckeyes, I can't recall a more gutsy effort. Great job by the Matta, the kids and the staff. Needing to win to claim a share of the title and deny Sparty the outright, down 15 on the road against a great team as tough and physical as there is in the country and great coach with a hostile crowd smelling blood and nothing is falling.....those kids gutted it out, battled back and our lone senior, criticized all year long, steps up and hits a long jumper in the final second to win.....WOW! Another title/share for Matta....
No surprises in day one of the B1g Ten Tournament. Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Purdue all advance to play another day. Looks like no NCAA bid for Northwestern and probably Bruce Weber's last game as coach for the Illini.
Exciting day two in our tournament. Minnesota lets victory slip away in OT with Michigan. Unknown senior (Wilson) comes off the bench and scores 30 points and propels Wisky to win over Indiana. Buckeyes and Boilers have pretty close game until the last seven minutes and defeat Purdue. Sully gets 30 points and good support from Thomas. MSU wins over Iowa. Semi finals today and championship game tomorrow. This is the first time in fifteen years of the B1G Ten Tournament, that all four top seeds have advance to the semi finals.
Hats off to MSU. they made the plays when they needed them. It was a close game throughout and many lead changes.
Hail Sparty...tight the whole way, came down to the wire. Two very evenly matched teams, going toe to toe in a big boy basket ball game. They were just that much better this year..... show time.
