Matt McCarty made 3 putts of over 50 feet today and shot 63! Leads by 3. He hit a shot from 243 on the 18th hole and hit it to like 2 feet. But wait, the group ahead had not finished the hole, they had cleared the green for Ricky Fowler to make a shot from way off the green. I've never seen that happen on the PGA tour. They nicely marked his ball and fixed his ball mark and finished the hole!!
McCarty couldn't match his 1st round play and fell back quite a bit. Im is the new leader with Fleetwood 1 shot back and JT and Alex Fitzpatrick are 2 shots back.
Every day a new guy gets hot. Today Alex Fitzpatrick, Cam Young are hot today . JT just a few strokes back.
Yeah Short putting was the difference for a lot of guys today. The Norwegian kid played well and steady and deserved the win. Ricky still had a good tournament.
PGA Championship this week. In Philly at Aronimink a course I don't know anything about. Golf Channel says it is one of the shortest tracks and has wide fairways. It's defense is the greens. Fast and very undulating. Rory and Scottie of course are the favorites. Jon Rahm will be there as well as Bryson. Cam Young seems to be the #3 player right now. Long and straight off the tee. Course looks beautiful on the shots they have shown on TV.
Lots of talk about Jon Rahm and a lot of it isn't positive. The Golf Channel guys say his playing on an inferior tour have hurt his game. Also talk of Justin Rose switching to F1 team Mclaren's line of golf clubs. He's had a big hand in their design. He's not played well with the new clubs. Just incase you want to give them a try.... McLaren Golf
According to the Golf Channel Cam Young is playing with a golf ball that conforms to the proposed standard to take effect in the new couple of years. Titleist Pro Vix double dot..which you can't buy.
The Titleist Pro V1x Double Dot is a prototype golf ball designed for high-speed players, offering lower long-game spin and a more penetrating flight than the standard Pro V1x. It features a reformulated dual core, a thicker casing layer, and a thinner cover for increased speed and refined flight, often described as a hybrid between the Pro V1x and Left Dash. Performance: Designed to offer high launch, lower long-game spin, and exceptional greenside control. Target Player: Elite players with high spin rates who need to reduce spin with long irons and wedges while maintaining greenside spin. Origin: Developed as a "Custom Performance Option" (CPO) similar to the Pro V1 Left Dot or Pro V1x Left Dash, notably used by Cameron Young. Availability: Primarily a tour-prototype, though sometimes available through special, limited releases. Design: Features a new 348 tetrahedral dimple pattern for a more consistent, slightly lower flight.
How embarrassing!! NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. -- South Africa's Garrick Higgo was penalized two strokes for being late to his Thursday morning tee time in the first round of the 108th PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club. Higgo, who is ranked 85th in the world, was scheduled to tee off on the No. 1 hole at 7:18 a.m. ET. He is playing with 2003 PGA Championship winner Shaun Micheel and Michael Brennan. The PGA of America said in a news release that Higgo was practicing on the putting green but was not within the area defined as the starting point of his starting time. The PGA of America's Local Rules and Terms of Competition define the starting point of a round on the Nos. 1 and 10 holes by the "rope, gallery stakes, green bike fencing and/or blue stakes, blue dots or blue lines." Higgo, 27, was allowed to remain in the tournament because of an exception to Rule 5.3a, which allows a golfer to arrive at the starting point ready to play no more than five minutes late. Higgo was assessed a two-stroke penalty on the first hole. He made par on the par-4 hole but carded a double-bogey 6 because of the penalty. The two-time PGA Tour winner was able to recover with birdies on the par-4 third hole and par-5 ninth. He made the turn at even-par 35.
Things never got better for Bryson and he shot a 6 over 76. Things weren't much better for Rory who couldn't find the fairways and was a bit off with the putter. Finished with 5 bogey's in the final 6 holes. +4.
7 guys tied at -7, including Scottie. This is the first time he's led a major (or tied) in the 1st round so that's important. Given his bad starts this bodes well for him. He'd be leading at -4 if he hadn't missed a very short putt for par on the par 3 #14.
Was a lot of talk about pin positions being awful yesterday. But one thing for certain in these majors is that the players don't like it when the course is set up to be very tough, be it long rough, narrow fairways or very difficult pin positions. Usually the USOpen setups get the most criticism from the players. In the meantime, Scottie is slipping down the leaderboard and the guys at the top right now are a mix of who's he and some top players. Jon Rahm, Rory and Xander are all currently in striking distance of one of those who's he guys...Aaron Rai.
When I could golf I always wore two gloves...got teased sometimes. It always made sense to me but maybe my grip was more of a baseball grip. I played a lot in winter wearing winter gloves and that's kinda what got me started doing it year round.
