Brandon Logan, freshman DB who also plays baseball, made his debut for Irish baseball after recovering from surgery for an injury which kept him out of football. The result: a grand slam HR.
Irish Men's Lacrosse has ascended to #1 after beating 2 top 10 opponents in Georgetown and Maryland, now travel to Columbus for a match with #6 ranked Buckeyes. It's interesting to look at the Lacrosse top 10. 5 of them are teams that are Lacrosse Powers but are not in virtually any other sport. Richmond, Princeton, Harvard, Cornell and Army. It's pretty much that way in Hockey as well.
Awards for Hannah Hidalgo. Well deserved. CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo’s extensive list of honors and awards keeps growing. On Tuesday, the junior was named ACC Player of the Year for the second straight season and ACC Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive season. Hidalgo earned both awards from both the league’s head coaches voting and by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel. Cassandre Prosper also picked up league honors, becoming the first Notre Dame player to be selected the ACC Most Improved Player by both the coaches and Blue Ribbon Panel. Hidalgo is the first Notre Dame player to earn the ACC’s top honor multiple times and is the fourth to receive the honor joining Jewell Loyd, Kayla McBride [Coaches’ Poll] and Brianna Turner.
Irish Men needed a home win last night against a Stanford team they beat earlier in the year at Palo Alto, instead they took a loss. Shot well enough, but played no defense. Looking like that game at Chestnut Hill vs BC is likely the end of the season for them. Will be a lot of hard decisions this off season and how to fix the program
Irish women took care of business vs Miami today and are into the ACC Quarter Finals. They get NCSTate a team they beat not too long ago at home. Neutral Court and State is a really good team and well coached. As long as we have Hidalgo anything is possible, but I'm not holding my breath that we can beat them tomorrow. They have a lot of talent and a deep bench. We have Hannah.
Well we didn't just win today vs NCSTATE , we pretty much ran them out of the building. 81-63. Another great performance by Hannah Hidalgo. Next up is Conference Champion and #1seed Duke. As long as we have Hannah it's possible!
ND Hockey left for dead at one point and I don't think anybody thought they would win another game and finish dead last in the Big 10. Well they are still going to finish dead last but they have shown some spark lately getting a big win vs Penn State and they just swept Ohio State in Columbus. Maybe things are looking up.
Yeah that was quite a battle and we had a shot or shots to win it at the end but they didn't fall. They beat us by 20 at Cameron earlier in the season, so its clear we have improved as the season wenrt down.
Pretty good analysis of why we didn't beat Duke today from a guy who coaches girls basketball in Kansas. I missed most of the first half. The part I saw showed a transition defense reminiscent of how we played it versus Michigan (read: putrid). We gave up only 10 transition points all game. I definitely saw six of those in mid- to late-second quarter. Duke's posts were running at the rim, and we did not guard them. More alarming is that Duke had 20 offensive rebounds for the game. So that's 20 extra possessions. They converted those into 18 points. ND got 6 points off offensive rebounds (so -12). It also got seven points off transition (so -3 there). We got outrebounded 47 to 32. It's difficult to win any game when you give the other team 20 extra possessions. We only got 10 offensive boards.
Irish men go out with a whimper and not a bang. Loss on the road to a bad BC team. We can't finish dead last in the ACC as Ga.Tech is even worse than we are, but likely we'll finish in a 3 way tie for the next to last slot and our season is over. Lot of Irish fans are going for pitchforks and tar and feathers for Coach. Somehow I doubt that the Admin will do anything this off season.
Another... "Notre Dame failed to handle the small details all season, and Saturday was no different. The Irish showed a lack of hustle and urgency and struggled to play with any sense of pride. " ... "Three years into the Shrewsberry era, the Irish still lack a clear identity. The program has yet to consistently display any traits of a winning program. Shrewsberry can certainly build around Markus Burton, Haralson, Koehler, Braeden Shrewsberry and Cole Certa. But the biggest question heading into the offseason remains simple: Can he build a winning culture?"
