He was the leader of one of the biggest Cinderella stories in College football that I can remember.

I think that accounts for his big win.

Apparently Pavia has been hanging out with Johnny Football a little too much.

His reaction was an ugly, selfish response and he earned the criticism he received. Mendoza’s response of thanking his family and teammates and not calling for attention on himself was incredibly gracious.

I predict it will negatively affect him in the draft.

Take DeBoer off the Michigan list.

DeBoer didn’t wait until his Monday press conference. He released a Sunday statement.

“My family and I are very happy in Tuscaloosa and remain extremely grateful for the support of President Mohler, Greg Byrne, the board and so many others,” DeBoer said, via Yea Alabama. “We have an incredible opportunity in front of us, so my sole focus is on Alabama football and our preparations to play Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff.

“I have not spoken and have no interest in speaking with anyone else about any other job. I am fully committed to this program and look forward to continuing as the head football coach at the University of Alabama.”

Alabama director of athletics Greg Byrne also shared his thoughts on X on Sunday.

“We are proud to have Coach DeBoer leading our football program at The University of Alabama,” Byrne said. “He is an incredible coach and does an excellent job with the development of our student-athletes, both on and off the field. Just as he is committed to this team, we are committed to him, and we look forward to taking the field Friday in the first round of the College Football Playoff.”

DeBoer and Alabama are having ongoing discussions about an extension, but nothing has been agreed upon or signed, according to On3 national reporters Chris Low and Pete Nakos.

There has been very little mention of him leaving in the local press or on TV. Of course, I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes, but there have been no sightings of university airplanes or real estate agents that I know of.

It never made any sense to me that he would be looking to leave. He has a great recruiting class coming in and he made the playoffs this year and other than one HC, nobody leaves the Tide unless they are fired.

These types of situations always seem to follow the same pattern. A major school is looking for a coach and a fantasy wish list is created in the media of big name targets. Then unverified rumors are disseminated claiming that 1 or more of the targets has been in contact with the school and is very interested in the job. I think the problem for me is that I grew up in an era when most journalists sourced their stories with research while now in this social-media era, people sometimes lie to get clicks. Usually I have to remind myself of that when I read something that catches my interest.

Sometimes? It seems to be the norm now rather than the exception.

I agree with Bobda that there are people who write things they know aren't true. I think you just have to decide who you're going to trust. I've had experiences like he's described. I've deleted or blocked the guilty parties. There are lots of reliable writers out there. The good ones endure.

2 big time QB's are in the Portal. DJ Lagway from Florida a former 5 star kid, and Dylan Raiola another 5 star kid from Neb. Raiola started every game he was healthy for at Neb and so did Lagway at Florida. Rhule did fire his uncle though as the OL coach so maybe that figured into the Dylan leaving Lincoln. Not sure why Lagway decided to leave UF as he was again likely to be the starter next year.

One thing I am hearing is that staff's all over CFB are evaluating the NIL of players and some are getting pay cuts if they haven't performed up to expectations.
