First big news of the upcoming season...

Bruce Pearl is retiring from Auburn. Timing is no doubt to assure that his son gets the job. When Kelvin Sampson retires at Houston, I expect a similar situation as his son is also in that same position as Pearls.

Bruce Pearl has stepped down as the men's basketball coach at Auburn and will move into an ambassador's role in the athletic department as special assistant to the athletics director, the school announced Monday.

Steven Pearl, Pearl's son and the Tigers' associate head coach, received a five-year contract as the program's new head coach.

Pearl steps down after 11 seasons at Auburn

I meant it as a joke, but there have been rumors.

Here's an excerpt from a story in the Indy Star about Pearl's retirement:

"Pearl has been rumored as a possible candidate for Sen. Tommy Tuberville's open seat. He acknowledged earlier this month he has considered that option. However, in a video statement on Monday, Pearl said he was instead taking on the ambassador role at Auburn athletics."

sigh...I guess we'll survive, but it doesn't fix any "problems". As we all know the first 4 out will still think they were jobbed.

Getting close, exhibition games are on tap, for the irish they will play Butler and DePaul.

I see that Stu's Boilermakers are pretty much a consensus #1. I just hope the Irish have a over .500 season and can make the NCAA's.

I see that it's sandwiched between two powerhouse programs in E. Illinois and Bellarmine!! I just don't know what we'll be this season. Markus Burton is surely going to be an All American, but I don't know about the group around him. Hopefully they'll be good and we can have a good season, I see that your Buckeyes are just outside of the top 25 to start the season, so I imagine hopes are high in Columbus.

Terry last season turned out to be a big disappointment for most fans. We lost a number of close games that should not have happened and we paid the price not making the Big Dance again. We have a solid nucleus for this season with a number of transfers that will give us a better chance. Time will tell and I really hope Coach Deibler makes good us of the new talent.
