"Ryder Cup week boys! I wonder what the O/U is on NY fans being ejected from the venue for behavior?" Well, they warmed up yesterday. Gov. Hochul made and appearance and they roundly booed her.
Bethpage would get my vote for the permanent US venue! Imagine the home course advantage we'd have by holding every Ryder Cup on our side of the pond at Bethpage....free beer included
Played Bethpage a number of times (the had 5 courses) but only played the Black once. It was in my 20's and my golf game was pretty bad. We arrived there and the shortest wait on the other 4 courses was about 4 1/2 hrs. (The smart locals get up early sign up go home and go back to bet or have breakfast and come back hours later) Black was only 1 1/2 hrs. so....what the hell! It's a miracle I didn't quit golf that day. What a torture. I see that they still have that warning sign telling golfers it's a difficult course. No s@it!
We have the morning 4 somes pairings. Bryson/JT vs Rahm/Hatton ..on paper edge to USA Scheffler/Henley vs Aberg/Fitzpatrick ....USA Morikawa/English vs Rory/Fleetwood ...Europe Xamder/Cantlay vs MacIntyre/Hovland ...Toss up. We need the Scottie who has won so much the last 2 years, not the one that showed up on Rome 2 years ago.
Interesting, the Golf Channel guys have said the setup has been softened, wider fairways and shorter rough.
Not a lot better this afternoon, we might come away with a 2-2 split. But Scottie continues to play like anything but the World #1.
Do they import wrestling fans to attend the Ryder Cup? I was amazed how fans were loudly heckling players and shouting during shots and puts. I guess I have reached the censorious old man stage of my life but am stunned how spectator decorum at sports like golf and tennis has changed over the years. And get off my lawn!
Nephew Matt is at Pine Valley this week for the Crump Cup. They do stroke play Thursday and Friday and the the top 48 make the weekend match play. Matt made the cut.
Another disaster for the USA. Lose 3-1 this morning. Scottie again fails to show up and his shot on 18 knd of says it all on how he's played. The hole is getting deeper and we haven't stopped digging.
Geez, we are down in 3 of the 4 matches and AS in 1. We could go 0-4 this afternoon. This could be the worst Ryder Cup loss in our history. I don't understand it, we have a lot of great players, why can't we play better on our own soil in an environment that was supposed to intimidate the Euros.
