Happy Birthday Scottie...and he takes a triple on #1. Played like a hacker, rough, short in bunder, bladed bunker shot over the green, chunks the comeback chip and then chips 20 feet past the hole and misses the putt for a triple. JT plays it like a pro, fairway, short iron inside 5 feet or so and makes the birdie putt. Went from tied for lead with Scheffler to a 4 shot lead on him
JT says hold my beer and posts a quad on #13. It was brutal watching him attempt to chip, twice the ball came back to his feet. . Yikes. Scottie seems to at least for now righted the ship and posted a birdie on #13. Tommy Fleetwood continues to play very well and leads the tournament.
Golf is in Detroit for the Rocket Mortgage event. The field won't be very strong though as the top players are pretty much done in the US and will be prepping for the British Open. It's the last event that players can get the points needed to get into the Open though, so there are some players who could benefit from winning here. The Seniors are at the Broadmoor in Colorado for the Senior US OPen. I've never been to the Broadmoor but it's a place I would love to go and experience.
Jason Day is here in Mansfield Saturday playing a casual round. I've played the East and West courses at the Broadmoor.
I'm officially jealous!! BTW are you able to get back to playing or has the leg/foot problem ended your golfing career.
A couple of course records today from guys I've never head of before, but they lead at -10, Potgieter had a shot a -11 on the 18th and made a good but that just broke a little too much.
Potgieter just ripped a drive at 196 mph ball speed. He's currently tied for the lead but there are a bunch of guys still in it. Birdie fest in Detroit City.
Kind of depressing watching these guys take apart a Donald Ross classic that gave me all I could handle. Don't ever remember coming within 100 yds. of the 17th green. These guys can really mash it.
Chris Kirk had a makable putt on the 1st playoff hole for the win, but missed it. Greyersan had putt to win it on the last hole of regulation and missed it had another makable putt to win it on the 2nd playoff hole to win it and missed.. Kirk had putt to stay in it on the 2nd playoff hole, inside 5 feet and missed it. So Greyserman and Potgieter go at it again this time on #16.
Well it took a few holes, five to be exact, but somebody finally made a putt. Potgieter made fairly long putt to win it on the par 3. He's only 20 years old and from South Africa.
