Played it twice...back in the days before they built the stadium around the stadium hole and before they moved the rock for Tiger. Actually my drive was behind the same rock...but my tee was 100 yards ahead of the pro tees. And nobody removed the damn rock for me.
Emiliano Grillo just aced #16,the first in 3 .years. It flew in a did a 360 before settling in, beautiful shot. Followed by a rain of beer cups.
Used to stay at the Scottsdale Princess fairly often while travelling back in the day. The TPC was just around the corner so had a chance to play a few times. Never scored well, often got bludgeoned but always enjoyed it. Love the great desert courses
No, thanks for asking. Haven't given up yet but it's a slow process. Going through PT but neuropathy isn't like a sports injury or surgery...but I'm doing all right otherwise. Get out and about ok with a cane. Have to be careful with ice but so far not much this winter here. Seems like it all goes north of us or south of us.
Thomas Detry, never heard of him but he smoked the field and won the WM/Phoenix Open. Impressive play by him. Jordan played very well and hopefully will get back to playing like he did when he was winning. Scottie kind of ffizzled out today after playing well the first 3 days
I love it when a guy plays great and seizes the win rather than when a guy folds and loses. Detry birdied the last 4 holes and shot 66 with a bogey.
Back to Torrey Pines for the Genesis, Tiger was originally going to play but has withdrawn due to the death of his mother. Should be a good field even without Tiger. This will be different than the Farmers Insurance Open in that only one of the 2 courses will be used, they will play the South Course. The South Course at Torrey Pines is considered significantly harder than the North Course; the South is generally longer, has more challenging bunkers, and is the course typically used for major championships like the U.S. Open, making it the more difficult option for most golfers I was in San Diego for my Naval Career but never made it to Torrey Pines, we had a great Navy Golf facility and I also played Balboa Park. We also had a quirky on base Par 3 course that I played.
Weather was a bit better today, nice leader board. The no-name Davis Thompson has a 1 shot lead over Scottie Scheffler and Rory is in 3rd.
Rory and Scottie had bad days and sort of shot themselves out of contention. Patrick Rodgers on the other hand seized the moment and has a 1 shot lead. Rory missed a 2 footer today and couldn't find the fairway.
Hard to believe that a great driver of the ball like Rory can score so poorly on per 5s. Nice ace bo Aberg. Loved playing the little downhill par 3. Scottie for some reason is fighting his swing. Gess it happens time to time even with the best.
I've probably played it half a dozen times. It's a public course. Pretty reasonable....for residents. Played it a few times while on business in Cal. Mary attended 3 meetings at the Hilton that is next to the course. (One time our room overlooked the 11th tee. I think it was 11.) In any event the last time I played there was the last time I walked 18 holes. On one of my San Diego trips I stopped by to play with AJ at Miramar.
