Didn't get to watch it live. These guys are starting to... Nope... not gonna let them suck me in this time!
Unlike their basketball sisters, the Texas men's basketball team is reeling from it's SEC entrance. The ladies are a top 5 team and paossibly a #1 seed in the tourney. The men are still seeking their first SEC win and right now are unlikely to make the NCAA Tourney. The latest was a loss to Rick Barnes and the Vols. this proud Texas program that slipped to 0-5 in Quad One games and could dangerously fall out of contention for a precious NCAA Tournament spot before the calendar turns to February if it’s not careful. The NCAA postseason was always a certainty for the Horns under Barnes, who made it in 16 of 17 seasons at Texas where he also won 402 games before getting fired and resurrecting Tennessee. At least one bracketologist lists 13 SEC teams in the NCAAs with Texas mentioned as the first SEC team out. “You have to keep your team together and stay the course,” Terry said. “We’re still learning what it takes to finish games.” They’d better learn fast or they’ll be finished. Longhorns lose to No. 1 Tennessee and are in danger of missing NCAA
Shooting 58% free throws will usually get you beat. Definitely will against a top team like Alabama. The Aggies need to regroup quickly as they travel to Kentucky next.
I never get why teams aren't all good FT shooters. It's the one skill you can practice all you want by yourself.
Auburn is the new #1, followed by Iowa State, Duke, Alabama and Florida in the top 5. I wonder how long Auburn will stay #1! Houston Cougars who dropped way down after some early season losses are also on the rise and are now back in the top 10, at #10
I see that Chris Beard, the old Texas coach who lost his job due to a drunken fight with his wife, has got Ole Miss on the rise. They went to Tuscaloosa and beat Alabama. The guy can coach and if he and the wife stay sober who knows what he'll do at Ole Miss. Illinois put 94 points on IU at Bloomington...ouch.
Lots of anger and angst in Hoosierland after that historically horrible defeat, all of it directed at Mike Woodson. Stay tuned.....or not.
Sad state of events for Woodson, an Indiana alumni and former player. Student section was chanting Fire Woodson during the game. Fans across the board seem to think they can say and demonstrate almost anytime they are at games. Sad indeed!
I remember back when Purdue football fans, unhappy with the season Jack Mollenkopf's usually successful team was having, were chanting, Fire fat Jack. It happened. It turned out to be a "Be careful what you wish for" situation. It was many years before Purdue returned to the levels its teams had enjoyed under JM. I also remeber pep rallies in the ND fieldhouse my freshman year when the students chanted for the firing of Joe Kuharich. That also happened, which led to the hiring of Ara Parseghian. I agree that it's disrespectful. What really grinds me - always has - is when students and fans of the winning team, usually in high school, chant at the fans of the losing team, the Na na na na hey hey goodbye song. Highly unsportsmanlike IMO.
I know most don't follow women's college basketball, but this is a good feel good story. Last year due to injuries and stuff, TCU had to forfeit several games and the season was on the brink. Coach held open tryouts and ultimately 4 girls from the student body stepped up and gave TCU enough bodies to finish the season. One of them, Ella Hamlin, a HS player who decided to go to TCU to attend their Nursing program rather than play small (Div 2 or 3) college basketball was one of them. She's back this year still on the team and the coach gave her a scholarship, worth about 82K!! Good on her, she's a student/athlete!! x.com
Not to mention the stupid "IU Sucks! they (we) tend to do" But on the other hand didn't Cignetti say someting to the effect of "Purdue Sucks but so do Ohio State and Michigan."? I'm into beating your rivals, but you should show them some respect. I hate certain teams but I respect them (and their fans...most of the time.)
