Yes Don, it seems like there are always big surprises in the last couple of weeks. I’m wondering if we may have a conference champion with say 3 losses bump a higher ranked team out of the playoffs? Also how much will strength of schedule play in ranking the top 12. Doesn’t seem to have mattered much yet.
From an article in USA Today: "Texas and Penn State have played a combined 20 games this season. They’ve beaten one CFP-ranked team between them (Penn State against Illinois). They were both ranked in the top five last week. " The committee should just stop saying that strength of schedule is a factor.

BYU losing to Kansas pretty much assures that the B12 runner up won't get a bid. That helps the Irish a bit for sure. ESPN projects the Irish to #6 and if Ohio State beats IU, while the Irish beat Army we could get up to #5. That would leave it all on the game at USC. Every game matters for a lot of contenders for spots in the CFP. I haven't looked at the SEC schedule but do any of the 2 loss teams have games that they will not be big favorites left on their schedule? The Big 10 is likely to finish with 1 undefeated, and 3 1 loss teams in IU, PSU and OSU. They keep saying that the loser of both the Big 10 and SEC Championship games will not be penalized for making the game and losing. I still say that they need to drop the whole automatic bid for Conference champs, lets just play the "best" 12, that's likely to include the Conference Champs of at least the B10 and SEC.
It could happen, but as a pro IU guy, I think that happens only if Ohio State beats IU by a lot. If IU is competitive and keeps the game close, I can't imagine that Army will be considered a better opponent than IU. Of course, if IU should win and ND beats Army by a respectable score, does ND move past Ohio State? EDIT: One thing I didn't consider is the possibility of ND losing to Army. If I speculated on the possibility of IU winning, it's only fair to speculate on the possibility of Army beating ND.
Well the Irish move to #6 in both the coaches and the AP polls, Oregon, OSU, Texas, Penn State and IU are 1 through 5. 7,8,9 10 are all SEC teams. Interesting that Army despite continuing at 9-0 and now locked into the AAC Championship game dropped 2 places in the AP poll.

Texas plays Texas A&M, winner to be one of the playoff teams. As to the question how many of the 2 loss teams play each other, I don't see any when looking at the schedule. The first tiebreaker is the best record of all the tied teams with each other. The Gators will try to eliminate one of them this weekend when we play Ole Miss. We did eliminate one last week when we beat LSU.
