Ohio State started practice yesterday, September 23. New rules allow practice to begin 42 days prior to first scheduled game. Hall of Fame games and exhibitions games do not count. Everything seems to be changing anymore, more games and ticket prices.
Pre-Season Rankings... 1. KU 2. Alabama 3. UConn 4. Houston 5. Gonzaga 6. Baylor 7. Iowa State 8. Duke 9. Arizona 10. UNC The Blue Devils have the #1 Freshman in Cooper Flagg Look at all the transfers to KU Can Bill Self find the right perimeter combination? Riley Kugel decommitting and Elmarko Jackson's knee injury cleared the backcourt rotation up a bit, but Self is still adding elite transfer AJ Storr, high-level shooter Rylan Griffen, Summit League Player of the Year Zeke Mayo and veteran high-major starter Shakeel Moore to returning starter Dajuan Harris Jr.
Terry, are you aware we will play Texas on November 3rd in the Hall of Fame game in Las Vegas? We have so many new faces, only three returnees from last season one is out for the season due to injury. We picked up two five stars, but I have no idea how the chemistry will shake out?
No I haven't even looked at the Longhorns basketball schedule. Not sure what to expect of the team this season.
Interesting move by the new PAC 12. The Pac-12 is adding Gonzaga as a member in all sports the school plays starting in July 2026, the conference announced Tuesday. Gonzaga brings a rich basketball tradition to the refurbished Pac-12, as the Zags have reached the Round of 16 of the men's NCAA tournament nine consecutive times. Ohio State Men's basketball team will have five games streamed by Peacock this season, plus the preseason clash with Texas in Las Vegas.
Shocking, UVA coach, Tony Bennett, resigned effective immediately. Very odd timing to resign. Virginia men's basketball coach Tony Bennett will announce his immediate retirement Friday, the school announced. Bennett, 55, was set to begin his 16th season with the Cavaliers in less than three weeks, with the program opening the campaign against Campbell on Nov. 6. Sources told ESPN that Bennett's decision to retire is not health-related. Bennett, who led Virginia to 2019 title, to retire
His dad took Wisconsin to the F4 for the first time in school history but then retired 3 games into the next season citing burnout as the reason. His dad later returned to coach at Washington State for several years and was succeeded by Tony. Tony is not as intense as his father but perhaps like his dad, he left because nothing was left in his tank. Another theory is this was premeditated. He rehired his long time assistant coach Ron Sanchez who left V to become head coach at Charlotte. Resigning now gives Sanchez a full season to earn the HC job in the same way Bill Guthridge earned the HC job at North Carolina when Dean Smith abruptly retired. The other theory is that he was simply fed up with the NIL/open transfer world of college basketball. Sad to see him gone as he is a class act and often outperformed conference bluebloods Duke and NC in the ACC with less talented teams that played hellacious defense.
Biggest reason Tony Bennett gave was the current state of college athletics. UVA's Bennett cites state of game for retirement
Well our first outing against the Cincinnati Bearcats was a bit disturbing, losing 80-62. We have our work cut out for us!
Longhorns have a lot of young talent Don, the big question is whether or not Rodney Terry is going to work out and be the guy as HC.
I was pleasantly surprised by Ohio State's new roster, and the facet that we got off to a great start, and led all the way in both halves. Even more surprised see where A&M lost their opener?
Hey the Ag's got the first court storm of the college basketball season! That on the heels of the field storming in Columbia Saturday night! Medcalf: With the return of Wade Taylor IV, an All-SEC first team honoree last season, Texas A&M entered the season with conference title aspirations and dreams of making a deep run in the NCAA tournament. It could still happen, but the Aggies ended their first game swarmed by a sea of fans in the first court storm of the season after they lost to UCF in Orlando. Taylor finished 4-for-15, and the team made just 31% of its 3-point attempts and 37% of its field goal attempts. Here's the number to watch going forward: Texas A&M shot just 40% from inside the arc. Under Buzz Williams, the Aggies have never made more than 50% of their 2-point attempts in a season. That trend could impact the Aggies this season, too.
Congrats on the win Don, only thing Longhorns can take away from the loss... 15 -- Johnson showed no signs of freshman jitters in his college debut, as his offense in the first half kept the Longhorns in the game. Johnson scored a 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range, in the first 20 minutes.
This is how Buzz 's teams always start. They look completely out of whack to start the season, so they have to play the 2nd half of the season as maniacs to get in the tourney, only to be badly seeded because of the crappy early season losses. Happens EVERY YEAR.
