I hear you, Scott. I saw that movie myself in 2021 when Jay Johnson interviewed with LSU for their HC opening while Arizona was still playing in the CWS.
I kind of understand why athletes contend that they should be able to change schools at will....the coaches do it. Right?
Well they can now. With NIL and and the other money that's out there, you could see entire teams turn over. And if a bunch of the A&M players transfer now, I think that will be the final nail in the coffin of college sports for me. I was already done with football and basketball, but now baseball is looking pretty sour to me as well. I've got a tractor to buy, so I can work on the property... and I think I'll have a LOT of free time to play around with it.
I hear you and I am leaning in the same direction, but what we’re really pissed about is that athletes are now doing the same thing coaches have always done. I guess we have been going down this road for a while. It took a long time for the players to catch on.
After a few days to reflect and see how this is all shaking out I have to say I'm glad he's gone, and Texas is welcome to him. He stole some very special moments not only from the Aggie players but also from Tennessee. They should have been on the front page all week, but instead you got a clown show in Austin taking up all the space. If half of what is being alleged is true there should be some serious repercussions, but with the "rules" as they are there will be nothing more than a "you did a bad thing" admonition, and then back to business as usual. The SEC is about to find out what kind of snake they have allowed into their fold...
kp might not like that his coach is pretty high on the list from what I heard. I think we'll hear something tomorrow, maybe Monday night. A lot of folks have interviewed...
I was really happy with the Gators doing as well as they did. Especially since we just barely made it into the playoffs at all. Shocked at the coach moving from A @ M to Texas. Not a real classy move in my opinion but I don't know the underlying reasons.
Our team has done well but languished in the middle of the pack for a long time. I'm not sure of the potential to get to the top with the current staff. In other words, I'm not so sure that it's a bad thing if he leaves.
I envy the attraction to coaches of southern teams in college baseball. Programs like Alabama and Texas A&M can be destination jobs, depending, of course, on the level of success. Not so with northern schools like ND. We get guys who raise the program then move on, like Paul Manieri (LSU) and Link Jarrett (FSU). Of course for Jarrett, it was going home.
Well kp you are safe. The Aggies hired former assistant Mike Earley. He's a tremendous hitting coach... and loved by the players, but has no exp as a head man. Staff hires will be very important, and could be surprising if the rumors are correct.
As in most college sports, there is a premium on recruiting. Talent evaluation is a must. Of course player development is the other half of the equation.
No word on the pitching coach officially, but rumors are they are not bringing Max back. They seem to think a sitting head coach will be coming on board as pitching coach. Which points a lot of eyes to the west where some of the PAC schools either don't have a home, or are going to the BIG, which would be viewed as ripe for poaching.
