DUH! I was thinking back in the past, when Carroll coached in the NFL before coming to Southern Cal. Totally spaced on his time at Seattle. Thanks, Bob. Gipper. Likewise, I spaced re: Johnson. Never liked him but he certainly was successful with the Cowboys.
If he gets his contract at Michigan the way he wants it he doesn’t care what the NCAA does. He won’t be able to be fired for cause if I understand it correctly.
Thing is they can still fire him of course, but they have to pay him. Unlike the dude at Mich State who was fired for cause and they don't have to pay him. He's of course fighting that.
Scott, any opinion with Ohio Sate hiring your former AD? Fans here do not seem to be too excited about the hire. We do not need a Bjerk to complicate the picture.
True, fired is fired. The difference is for cause means the contract is void and you get no money. Unlike Jimbo who got the full value of the contract. Also playing amateur analyst here, but Harbaugh has been adamant that he is innocent, that Michigan is innocent of the charges. So not being able to fire him for cause might mean something to him.
That’s my point. If Harbaugh gets the contract the way he wants it, “for cause” means nothing. He will get paid either way.
Don: Honestly, until you said that I didn't know he was leaving. I have disconnected from Aggie sports almost completely. Baseball is the only one I still give a crap about, and hadn't been keeping up... Well... I'd say he's decent. He did hire our baseball coach and that was a massive upgrade. He hired the basketball coaches for both sides, and those hires seem good so far. In short, I don't really have any bad reviews to pass on.
Alabama continues to bleed good players to the portal. Caleb Downs who had a spectacular freshman year is leaving. Kaydan Proctor a 5 star OT who started a lot of games this year for the Tide and who had a bright future there is leaving. They are saying he may go back home and play for that offensive juggernaut Iowa. Both are leveraging their great freshmen seasons for big NIL money. Re: Proctor..from the Athletic. Iowa is the team to watch for Proctor. A Des Moines native, Proctor was the highest-ranked recruit from Iowa in the modern recruiting era (and the No. 5 overall player nationally in 2023). He initially committed to Iowa over Alabama during the summer of 2022, but Alabama pulled off a late flip of Proctor just before early signing day in December 2022. There’s a significant need for Proctor on Iowa’s offensive line, a key unit for a Hawkeyes offense that has drawn headlines for its ineptitude over the last few seasons. Under a new offensive coordinator (no replacement for the outgoing Brian Ferentz has been named), Proctor would be an instant plug-and-play piece for an Iowa team with high expectations after retaining several marquee players from the 2023 team including cornerback Jermari Harris, linebacker Jay Higgins and tight end Luke Lachey.
Re: Byrne to Ohio State, a lot of big $$$ A&M donors forced him to fire Jimbo and after that he was a short termer at A&M. They aren't happy that his pushing that extension that cost them so much money and he needed to find another job
I recently joked about Michael Penix Jr. following Kalen DeBoer to Alabama for his 9th seasaon of eligibility. Well, here's a guy coming back for his actual 9th season. Of course, 4 straight years of season-ending injuries were a factor.
I truly hate that this is happening to KP and Bama faithful because but for the grace of God, in this age of NIL, there go us all. I can understand to a degree the special draw that Saban had on young DB's and by all accounts Downs worshipped Saban so I can see Downs wanting to look around. But man, these are some great young players with very bright futures that Bama has to replace. Now having said that, I know that we have an uphill battle with both of these kids but they are dead center in the middle of our radar and we're gonna put on a full court press for both of 'em. They are difference makers, both of them and tho unlikely, I hope we get 'em both. They are the kind of kids that decide which team will hoist the Natty
I can almost understand the defensive guys looking around but the offensive players kind of surprise me.
Dang I didn't know they could do this, but an Alabama kid who just signed in Dec 2023 and is an early enrollee at Alabama has hit the Portal. Will the Tide have any DB's next season? Alabama has had multiple players enter the transfer portal since Nick Saban announced his retirement last week. But the Crimson Tide's first 2024 early enrollee has entered the transfer portal. Tampa Catholic's Jameer Grimsley has entered the portal according to multiple reports. Grimsley was a unanimous four-star prospect as a cornerback/athlete from Tampa. Grimsley joined Alabama in January, but has not played a down for the Crimson Tide before deciding to enter the portal. Alabama signed 23 players on the early signing day, and 21 players enrolled early. He is the eighth defensive back to enter the transfer portal this offseason joining Trey Amos, Caleb Downs, Antonio Kite, Earl Little III, Jake Pope, Dezz Ricks and and Kristian Story.
Gents, you aren't seeing the forest for the trees. You are still living in the world of "this kid is one of us, and we can count on him" players. While there are a few of those here and there, most of the kids now are loyal only to one thing: Their bank account. No matter what school, and where they sit in the pecking order there is always a place that can promise a little more cash, and that's what these kids are about now that they've had a taste of the fast lane. That is the reason CFB is dead to me.
I saw that too Tim. If this year is any indication he's gonna be around awhile and is a deeply spiritual young man, so they're gonna have to get used to it or keep their censors working overtime cause he ain't gonna stop praising the Lord
