Do they not have concussion protocols in baseball? I watched Astros Hunter Brown bean the A's Jordan Diaz with 95mph fast ball. He went down but got back up and the training staff came out and asked (that's what it looked like) if he was ok and I guess he said yes and down the 1st base he goes. I hope he doesn't have a concussion, if he doesn't then I guess those baseball helmets are really good because It seems like the football helmet doesn't protect as well or maybe the head to head contact is worst than getting beaned with a 95mph fastball
If there is a worst team in the race for a playoff spot than the Astros I don't know who they are. We had 9 games with the 2 worst teams in the league, Oakland beat us 2 out of three and KC just completed sweeping us at home after taking 2 out of three in KC. Time for Dusty to fade into his well deserved retirement.
RIP Brooks Robinson. The Baltimore Orioles announced Tuesday that franchise legend Brooks Robinson has died at the age of 86. Nicknamed "the Human Vacuum Cleaner," Robinson is arguably the greatest defensive third baseman in the history of baseball, winning 16 Gold Glove Awards in his Hall of Fame career, all of which came consecutively. Robinson won two World Series and was named an All-Star 18 times.
never seen this before, I've seen many a HR ball thrown back in the outfield if it was hit by a visiting team player. But never this.
Attendance at MLB has rebounded and they are crediting the speeding up of the game and the elimination of the gimmicky shifts that were plaguing the game/offense. It's been a long time since I've been to a game n person but it's more a I don't want to drive downtown search for an overpriced parking slot and then pay 16 dollars for a beer, 12 dollars for a hot dog, etc. NEW YORK -- More than 70 million fans will attend Major League Baseball games for the first time in six years, a post-pandemic rebound for a sport that instituted its biggest on-field changes in decades. A pitch clock to speed play - game times are down 24 minutes to 2:40 for nine-inning games - limits on defensive shifts to increase offense, new social spaces at ballparks and technology innovations to speed entry have factored into a 9.2% rise in average attendance to 29,176. Expanding the playoffs to 12 teams, which began last year, led to more than half the teams remaining in mathematical contention. Spring football leagues XFL, USFL plan to merge
Thanks, Terry. That's great news for this old baseball junkie. Heck, even the Cubs might be in the playoffs. Too bad for AJ's Cardinals. Just breaks my pea pickin' heart.
1990 was the last time the Cards finished last in their Division. I wonder how long they will be down, a couple of bad years equals a number of high draft choices and a good start at the rebuilding. Or will they spend big on free agents. On another topic, Craig Counsell ( ND '92) the Brewers manager reportedly has not signed a new contract and the current one runs out at the end of the season. I'd be curious what the rumours are in Milwaukee? He's done an excellent job, He's a Midwest kid born in South Bend and grew up in Whitefish Bay Wisconsin wo you wouldn't think he'd be longing for New York or other big market teams with deep pockets.
Nah. I'm at peace with it. Plus, it was one game, played well by both teams, not a full season. Seriously AJ, kidding aside, I was a Cardinals fan before I was a Cubs fan as a little kid, because of Stan Musial, one of my two lifetime baseball heroes (Ernie Banks the other). AND I know well as a Cubs fan the feeling of being in last place. Baseball is better when the Cardinals are in contention. I may yank your chain (and you, mine), but I don't want to see the Cardinals like they were this season.
I know that. By the way, my grandon is doing well as a MP at Camp LeJeune. He was home recently on leave. He's a Lance Cpl. Proud of him. Proud of you, my friend.
Make sure he's only doing bottled water! Thanks Sid...tell the young Devil Pup the Gunner says SEMPER!
TOK, The rumor is he wants to take time off to watch his son play college baseball. However, he is an excellent manager and I would not be surprised if he harbors a desire to manage a team whose owner is willing to spend money to acquire top shelf talent. He has a difficult job here trying to create a gourmet meal on a $10 budget.
Magical moment in MKE. Brewers brought up from Nashville today, a 29-year-old lifetime minor leaguer, a LHP who had previously been waived by the El Paso Chihuahuas. Grew up in a town of 2k in central Wisconsin with most of the town attending the game tonight. Leads the team to an extra innings win against the Cubbies!
Astros clinch at playoff spot, it the Rangers lose tomorrow and the Astros win I think we win the division on Tie breakers. Given our home record this year, it'd be better to have to go on the road.
From another poster ... I was amazed how much this game EXACTLY mirrored last week. Nearly to a T. OSU went up 10-0, nd scored 14 unanswered with great, sustained, non flukey drives and solid defensive stands - clearly in command and position to win. Then ND stopped OSU, got back ball, couldn’t drive and run out clock, gave ball back, OSU had long drive to take end of game lead. Now copy paste but change OSU to ND, ND to Duke, and “10” to “13”. Even the time left on the clocks after each drive were eerily similar, ND just scored their last TD 30 seconds sooner. Feels better to be on this side of it.
