Certainly some interesting comments and observations about ESPN. I agree the SEC is keeping them in the market place. I have always been partial to Kirk Herbstreit as a commentator and his professionalism, although many Buckeye fans were very cold towards him and caused his family much grief.
I like Herbie, I’ve met him in real life, great guy. ESPN still has a couple of shining stars in the company but with Disney making their “annual cuts” they’ve really watered down the company and have lost some great talent.
One person I admire at ESPN is Mike Breen, he’s the NBA finals play by play announcer, he’s fantastic. Bang!
I like him too. I know it's hard for a guy closely associated with a major program to get it right. If he says anything good about OSU then he's a homer, if he says anything even slightly negative then he's a traitor. Herbstreit does a good job of being straight, at least in my opinion.
Agreed. Plus I think being associated with that prick Chris Fowler has people viewing in negatively from an OSU fan’s perspective.
Gators not nearly as competitive since Meyer left and a decided underdog in this game. I am optimistic about our new coach if he is given time. However a lot of Gator fans don't agree and want him gone. To me changing out coaches every three years or so is no way to get back to being relevant. I do feel we have a chance.
If Texas keeps winning they will be right in the hunt for the playoffs. Same with Notre Dame. And sadly FSU. Colorado is an interesting team to keep track of. Long for the days when the Gators were in contention,
I knew it had been awhile since the Vols won in Gainesville, but I didn't think it was 2003. Vols need to figure out if Joe Milton is the guy and Billy Napier need to get the win.
Not Bill, but that never stopped me. They were talking about that this morning on ESPNU and they said a loss to the Vols, esp if they don't look good losing (oxymoron I know) that the unhappiness with Napier will be rising. Napier took over a bad situation as Dan Mullen went off the rails recruiting wise esp in his last year and the talent level wasn't great, he's got the Gator current #3 in the 2024 class and they were saying that if he loses to the Vols he's got a lot of games that he could lose and end up with another sub .500 season and the class could get away from him with players deciding to look elsewhere.
No surprises Thursday night. Miami may well be on the way back, I fear the Midshipman are in for a long season?
I'm not sure, Don. I thought Navy's play in a close loss improved over past whippings by Memphis. We'll see over the entire season if I'm right or wrong. Full disclosure: As a result of my oldest granddaughter being a 3rd year midshipman, I'm a Navy fan.
Sounds funny but I'm actually looking forward to the Buckeye matchup with WKY. I think it will be a good tune up for the test coming up next week in South Bend and Freeman, Hartman and co. By all accounts the WKY QB can spin it all over the lot and they have a legit target out wide and we can expect them to throw it alot +40 times is a good guess. In addition to the inconsistency and sloppiness on the OL, Buckeye fans have been concerned about the missing pass rush - at least of the variety that they have been accustomed and we still need to see the back end of the defense get tested. This will be the week for all of that.....WKY will effort to attack downfield and we'll get to see if we can get any pressure with 4 and if the back end can hold up to a meaningful threat. I'm optimistic that this defense can become very good, they're not there yet but they'll have a good measuring stick on progress this weekend
I agree BuckeyeT, but I feel the point spread is totally unrealistic. I guess we will have to wait and see?
Wait and see indeed, but the good news is that their defense is the polar opposite of their offense. The defense is as bad as the offense is effective. We should be able to have our way with their defense unless our OL is worse than I think and is just a complete clown show rather than the partial clown show that they have shown thus far. This should be a "get well" game for the offense and a good test for the defense. My guess is that Jesse Mirco won't get alot of work this game
