Yeah I remember Staubach as a very good college player but not the best ever. Tebow probably a better choice. Fran Tarkington was another great.one. Running backs were so dominant in the the college game for so long. Herschel was certainly one of.the greats, but Bo was too.
How about the guy that won back to back Heismans?... Speaking of just GOAT'S, and based on career achievement, trophies won, impact on the sport, fan pleaser, in any sport...it would be hard to argue that the Golden Bear isn't standing on the top of that mountain looking down at the rest.
I think there have been so many really great RB's in Modern College Football History it is really almost silly to try and say somebody was the greatest. Herschel was great, but so was Jim Brown and Barry Sanders. Earl Campbell was amazing. Emmit Smith, who was that Neb RB who ended up with double digit paternity suits? He was great on and off the field apparently! OJ pre White Bronco, Mike Garrett the original Student Body right guy. Talk about amazing, Gayle Sayers.
This is an example, this kid was high on the ND target list, but word is that the trip to South Bend was just too much for his parents who want to see him play every game they can in college.
Media Poll for the B12 tabs the Longhorns to win the B12. KState is 2nd, OU is 3rd and Texas Tech is 4th. I can tell you anything short of this will be a huge disappointment to Longhorn fans.
Nasty hazing scandal has hit the news re Northwestern football. Fitzgerald has been suspended by the university for 2 weeks but if the allegations published in the university’s student newspaper become a national story, his job might be in jeopardy. Former NU football player details hazing allegations
I agree. The sexual nature of the rituals is especially disturbing. I have to wonder how widespread this type of thing is. Not hazing, I know that is widespread, but hazing of this sort?
My guess is that faculty, alumni, and donors have communicated their unhappiness about the student newspaper’s article with NU’s president. Northwestern to reconsider Fitzgerald's discipline
With the additional information coming to light, I do not see how Fitzgerald can survive or remain the head football coach at Northwestern.
I'm just spit balling here, but I have to wonder if this has been going on a long time even back to when Pat was playing at Northwestern. The standard might have been that coaches are to kept in the dark to give them credible deniabliity. Sort the old you better get it done any way you have to but I don't want to know what your doing when it comes to recruiting. Occassionally I see stories like this come up in regard to HS sports as well, more likely to involve football players. Hell it wasn't that long ago that some former Ohio State band members exposed some hazing activity that to the public seemed bad, but I remember a lot of other band members said it was no big deal. I forget the outcome, did the band director get fired? In today's climate it's a whole lot harder to just sweep it under the table and administer a proverbial slap on the wrist.
This is the incident I remembered, I think there are more out there. But I don't remember reading about the same sort of thing associated with college football. The video shows a group of students restraining two teammates and using a muscle therapy gun and another piece of athletic equipment to poke the buttock areas of the students who were on the ground. After more videos surfaced, the school district canceled the football season. Police determined that on Aug. 11, three students were sexually assaulted for about 20 minutes in a turf room, the release said. The students had been left alone in the turf room without any adult presence. 10 students charged in Middletown football hazing scandal: DA's office.
In a span of a few days, NU went from giving Fitzgerald a slap on the wrist to firing him. I suspect a lot of fans along with many present and former players are going to be outraged by this decision feeling that the school bowed to the mob rather than doing their due diligence before making a decision.
I think he'd have survived if it were just the traditional hazing, but when the accusers said there was a sexual edge to it he was cooked. i also don't believe this statement. Fitzgerald, an alum who has coached Northwestern since 2006, said in a statement Friday that he was very disappointed to hear about the hazing allegations and had no prior knowledge of the incidents.
So I guess the question is are there more shoes to drop? Current ACC Commish was the AD during all that time this was going on.
