So you're Sam Bennett, you're playing in your first Masters with the number 1 player in the world, how do you stop your hands from shaking on those first couple of holes? The guy starts the Masters with a birdie on one and then holes out from a bunker for an eagle on two!!! And he holds his game together finishing 4 under. For me by far, the most impressive round of the day. Anyone else wondering if Koepka would get a bonus from LIV if he wins the Masters?
Another thought, the Rahm of a few years ago probably would have had an impossible time staying in control after 4 putting the first hole. Notable comeback playing the last 17 in 9 under.
i thought it was established that his ball moved and he was just replacing it back to its original spot
Koepka getting out early before the weather took max advantage and is -12 through the 2nd round. Sam Bennett didn't wake up and realize it's the Masters! Another -4 today and sit's at -8 and in 2nd place. What a Masters this kid is having. Phil likely makes the cut, he's in at -4 If Scheffler is to repeat he's going to have get very lucky. He's in at -1 and more than 10 shots off the lead which is usually the cut line. Rahm got caught in the weather delay and is still at -7 and 5 shots back but he's got 12 holes to go once he gets back on the course.
I was hoping that Rory would finally get a Green Jacket, he's done a lot for the PGA Tour and has been playing well this year. But he's in at +5 and headed home.
Sam is my idol. Let me get this straight Rory’s at +5 and a 23 yr. Old first time amateur is at -8!!! Shades of Francis Ouimet.
interesting, because the 2nd round is underway and some have finished tomorrow if they get to play in wet and windy conditions they will not be able to play lift clean and place. So those players who still have to finish the 2nd round will have to deal with mud balls no cleaning them. Tomorrow is 100% chance of rain and high winds. Monday finish is in play for sure
Horrific conditions out there this morning for the guys to finish round 2. Amazing that Rahm was able to make up some ground on Koepka. The players, even the big hitters drives were far short of the 300+ carry they are used to, on 18 Raham 'smoked" one and it went 241, it left him with over 200 yards to the green he came up short and made bogey to finish at -10. Still an amazing round. Tiger made the cut, but JT did not again had to hit 5 wood into the final par 4 #18 and bogeyed to finish +4. Brutal and it not going to be better this afternoon.
At least it'll be even for everyone this afternoon. Tough luck of the draw for those who had to play late yesterday.
One thing they were saying is that going out this afternoon, Rahm having played the course this morning already has a feel for the conditions while Koepka played a completley different course Friday AM. It will take him awhile to get a feel for the course conditions.
Well we know that Rahm can play in this awful weather. We'll find out who else is a "mudder." This is Shane Lowry weather. I doubt Tiger's leg likes this weather. Wonder if Koepka has any residual knee problems in the cold. I don't have any idea what Bennett is going to go through. One problem he may have is his caddie is his college coach not a veteran tour caddie who knows how to make his player as comfortable as possible. I hope the guy is in good shape because lugging a golf bag up and down the hills in this weather is going to be a bitch.
So far Koepka is doing just fine and Rahm has lost a stroke while Koepka has gained a stroke. I have to say that I wouldn't be one of those hardy Patrons who are out there with the golfers, I'd be back at the hotel/Condo/AirBB/whatever. I know it's the Masters but I'm a rain wennie.
Just blew the horn, they can't keep the green's from puddling up even with the ground crews using their squeegee's liberally. They even have sysgems to deal with excess water. I don't think Tiger could have finished today with that leg. I bet this is headed to Monday Koepka started with a 2 stroke lead and now has a 4 stroke lead.
I told Mary that I thought Tiger would withdraw at the turn. He didn't have another 9 in him. While it's going to be decent tomorrow, I'm not sure he can play 29 holes. Doubt we'll see him on the course tomorrow. Koepka has put most of the field out of reach of winning. Unless he pulls a Norman, he's probably going to win by 5.
