Not a big surprise but Rick Pitino is taking the St. Johns job. I'm sure that he extracted a pledge from the University and any big money donor's they have to the program that the support will be very high to allow him to go out and bring in players that will allow him to compete for the Big East Title. Facilities, NIL, and other support issues are key these days. It would seem like this is a Home Run hire if there ever was one for a school. They seem to be ideally matched.
Might need BuckeyeT to explain how rich this guy really is, is he a potential Phil Knight for St. Johns? ALBANY — Mike Repole is eager to return to St. John’s as a benefactor of the basketball program if the Queens school can close on Rick Pitino. The billionaire alumnus is firmly behind the potential hire and ready to get involved, he told The Post in an exclusive interview. With the advent of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), his deep pockets would certainly benefit the Red Storm, who are involved in the NIL space with a collective, Storm Marketing. “As a proud and passionate St. John’s alum, I’ve waited over 15 years for St. John’s to hire a Hall of Fame coach like Rick Pitino,” Repole, the Vitamin Water co-founder, business mogul and Queens native, said Saturday afternoon, as St. John’s continued its pursuit of Pitino, the Iona coach. “He’s the type of coach that the University has deserved since the day Louie Carnesecca retired.”
Georgetown has hired Ed Cooley from Providence and Mike Brey has interviewed with USF for their opening. Things are heating up.
Don did you watch the Ohio State women vs UNC? Pretty exciting game with a buzzer beater win for your Buckeyes.
Yes Terry, a pretty physical game as well. We lost one to the Tar heels in the 80s for a national championship too and by one point, so I guess it all evens it self out over time.
I'm watching IU/Miami now and it's a pretty physical game as well. Louisville/Texas was also physical, Walz coached teams typically foul the hell out of you and complain about anything called against them. ND/MSU was a mugfest.
Down goes #1 IU, Miami hit the game winner much like Ohio State did earlier against UNC. Great game, Miami lead the whole game. IU tied it a couple games. Destiny Hardin of Miami missed 2 free throws at the end that might have sealed it and let IU have some air, but then she hit the game winner.
Pretty big spread of teams this year. 3 SEC 3 BIG EAST 2 B12 1 B10 1 PAC12 1 ACC 1 MTN WEST 1 AAC 1 WCC 1 IVY 1 CUSA
Don't really know the guy other that the fact that he's had a few big paydays cashing out his beverage brands to Coke. That said, he's got plenty of dough to help Pitino work his magic and appears eager to do so. My guess is that that Pitino's gonna be hot on the trail for his 3rd natty before too long
My guess is that Pitino will be in some kind of trouble and SJU will be under sanctions within five years.
More pain for brackets. FAU upsets the Vols, the Zags take down UCLA, KState has a big comeback to put Tom Izzo's Spartans on the plane back home and UConn cruises over Arkansas in chalk. It's looking more and more like Alabama Basketball will win it all.
Too much basketball to play yet. Alabama is so dependent on the three point that all it takes is cold night against another very good team to get beat. Hopefully, Alabama's defense can be the offsetting effort should that happen.
I have been here in Hobe Sound, Fla since January and Florida Atlantic has not lost a game since we arrived.
