We are a mediocre team, Don. Poor guard play, poor outside shooting combined with lethargic defense and a 1980’s style NBA offense that is not working. I really miss watching a Beilein coached team that spaced the floor and used ball screens and cutting and had players who shot the 3-pointer well and who generally improved their skills every year under Beilein’s coaching. Howard recruits better but seems to lack a coherent plan re roster construction and the talented players that do not jump to the pros after a year in college do not noticeably improve.
Well we won against Northwestern last night for our first conference win of this season. Purdue up next and I am anxious to see what we look like with a really good team?
It's just nearly impossible to go undefeated, and it's always some team that isn't really even nearly as good as the #1 team. Last week on the women's side there were 4 upsets of top 10 teams 3 of them by unranked teams. Was Kentucky 2015 the last team to go undefeated in the regular season? Then lost to Wisconsin in the final 4.
Didn't remember that Rutgers did it last year as well. WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Cam Spencer's 3-pointer with 13.3 seconds left gave Rutgers the lead, and No. 1 Purdue failed to convert on its final two chances Monday night as the Scarlet Knights held on for a shocking 65-64 road victory. It's the second straight season coach Steve Pikiell's team has upset top-ranked Purdue. Last season, the Scarlet Knights needed a half-court buzzer-beater on their home court to pull off the school's first win over a No. 1-ranked team. This time Rutgers (10-4, 2-1 Big Ten) did it in front of Mackey Arena's 49th consecutive sellout crowd.
Longhorns identity this season is defense...till last night when KState went wire to wire and put 116 point on the Horns. Yikes!
Never Heard of this ... GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Texas A&M trailed before the opening tip at Florida, a scenario neither coach had experienced or even knew was a possibility before Wednesday night. Shortly after leaving the court following final warmups, the Aggies realized managers had left their game jerseys at the team hotel. They double-timed it back to grab them, but officials hit them with a delay of game penalty -- officially deemed an administrative technical foul -- because the start had to be postponed a few minutes. Florida guard Will Richard made the free throw for a 1-0 lead before the opening tip. The Gators (7-7) barely led again and lost 66-63 at home to drop to 0-2 in Southeastern Conference play for the second straight season. The Aggies (9-5, 1-0 SEC) won for the first time in six trips to Gainesville and gave Buzz Williams a victory in his 500th game as a head coach. This one, though, will be remembered for that pregame point.
No big surprise here...I do wonder if somehow Beard beats the charges, will he sue Texas for wrongful termination. AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas fired basketball coach Chris Beard on Thursday while he faces a felony domestic family violence charge stemming from a Dec. 12 incident involving his fiancée. Beard had five years left on a seven-year guaranteed contract that includes a provision he could be fired for cause if he was charged with a felony. The charge of assault by strangulation/suffocation family violence carries a possible prison sentence of two to 10 years if convicted; the woman told police he strangled and bit her, but later denied Beard choked her. Beard had been suspended without pay since he was arrested, and school officials have said there is an ongoing internal investigation. Texas fires Beard amid domestic violence charge
I think Purdue is...not sure about OSU. Sagarin computer has Purdue at 11 and OSU at 10. Should be a good game. But limiting Don to 5 players at a time.
Buckeyes are holding their own against Purdue, leading 36-33 at the half. We are controlling the boards and playing some great defense for a change. Zed Key injured his shoulder early on at the beginning of play.
Heckuva game. Purdue is a young team. They hung tough against a very tight defensive effort by Ohio State. Great play by the Purdue freshman point guard.
A careless pass near the end of the game by Sueing cost us this game. Purdue shooting unreal in the second half. A good game and come March I feel we can be in the thick of things. Congratulations Stu!
