This was hinted at when NIL was turned loose. Most kids will put their names in just to see who nibbles.
Here's a shocker. Kayshon Boutte the LSU WR who is a 1st rounder in all the Mock Drafts has decided to return to LSU for his Sr. year. I wonder if LSU backers have come up with a really good NIL package for him to return, or of course he could be doing it for the reasons he gave. Love of LSU and wanting to compete next year for a Championship. LSU star WR Kayshon Boutte, potential first-round pick, eschews 2023 NFL Draft to return to team
On a serious note the Texas/Washington Alamo Bowl game is big for the Longhorns, we finished the season pretty well, We beat KState at their place along with Kansas also on the road and Baylor at home losing ony a close game to TCU. So while it's not like we are a finely tuned machine going into Bowl season, but Washington will be a strong team and a tough opponent. I don't know who is favored but it should be the Huskies. If we can beat them that sends us to the offseason on a really good note. Loss isn't a killer but still you always like to win your last game even if it is a meaningless exhibition game.
Our top Receiver Jaxon Smith-Nigby. has indicated his career is over at Ohio State due to injury and will opt out to prepare for his NFL bid in the coming draft.
Not.that read about yet. I know Bryce Young and Will Anderson have been cagey with their answers to that question.
Looking at that list of players leaving Alabama is pretty shocking. Tommy Brockermeyer who was considered the #1 OT in his class is leaving. Texas and Notre Dame both wanted him badly. There is a lot of talent leaving Alabama. I saw a tweet that said Drake Maye, the UNC freshman star QB, is considering the portal. That's just shocking to me. I have to believe if he does leave UNC it will be because some group of boosters promised him a lot more NIL.
I know this has already been said somewhere but the NCAA has got to set some rules on the Portal. This is just madness.
Yeah if this keeps up, it will be worse than the NFL. When that happens I'll have to find something else to do on Saturdays.
It took less than two years for the Portal and the NIL agreements to bring college football to its knees. KP is right; our respective affiliations with our favorite schools will quickly wane with this circus atmosphere and so will fan support.
We have 18 by a count put forth on Gator Country. Several others declaring for the NFL including our QB Anthony Richardson.
If you listen to the whiners on TexAgs... my whole team is in the portal and leaving. I know two have declared for the draft. I think some folks have not understood that just because a kid puts their name in the portal, doesn't mean they are leaving. Some are just seeing who might be interested... With that said, you fellas are correct that it will kill the sport - at least for those of us that expected the players to have a connection to our schools. Not much the NCAA can do - they've already been b!tch-slapped once by the courts. I don't see much they can control at this point.
Rick Neuhiesel predicted that the HS kids would be disadvantaged by the Portal. Coaches can fill holes with older more mature players rather than raw HS kids. Even kids who are in the Portal after their freshman year and haven't played have been in a college weight and nutrition program. So are less risky than the HS kid. This does not apply to the ESPN 300 kids though.
Hell, we all knew it was coming eventually. Too much a Louisville guy. I wish he was staying. Good coach. Irreplaceable? I dunno. I wish him well.
I agree. There is a good coach out there who can come in and do what he's accomplished and maybe even exceed it.
