Buckeyes opened their season at home with a 91-53 win over Robert Morris University this evening. 10 new faces this season including six freshmen. Justin Sueing is back for his 6th year of eligibility due to the Covid Virus.
Irish Men open Thursday with Radford. Irish Women opened tonight with a solid win over Northern Illinois. I'm expecting the Ladies to have a good season and the men could be in the top half of the ACC. The Ladies are loaded with talent the men have some of their best freshmen in years and have a core of returning upperclassmen to give us a shot at a good season.
With the abysmal football season I'm enduring, I had kinda forgotten about how Aggie basketball finished last year. I'm quietly excited to see what the kids can do. Good start with a 30+point blow out opening win over ULM. They moved the ball around well, and while I don't expect them to shoot quite that well every night, they showed with good looks they can drop the 3.
#14 Women Buckeyes defeated #5 Tennessee here last night 87-75. I watched the first half but Ohio State had a great deal of difficulty in the opening half getting the ball in the basket. That all changed in the opening third quarter and the Buckeyes never looked back.
That's a big win Don, but I am frankly surprised that two top 25 teams were playing this early in the season. All of the other top 25 teams likely played warmup type of games.
Good news for Ohio State and Coach Holtmann, he has another top ten class for next season with four new recruits. It has taken awhile but he is definitely moving in the right direction.
I posted the Irish basketball signings, not a top 10 like Ohio State but a top 25 class for Mike Brey and the Irish, which is a good class for Coach Brey. I don't think he's ever sniffed the top 10.
It will be interesting to see how the portal works in BB... One player can make a huge difference in this sport.
According to 247, Alabama has the #3 ranked recruiting class. I'm sure that raises expectations around here. Surprisingly, Auburn is a #20.
6 Grad students on the ND Roster, 5 are 23 and 1 is 24. Brey always says he likes an old team, he's certainly got that this year and sprinkle in JJ Starling a 5 star/McDonalds AA freshman.
Buckeye win 82-56 over Charleston Southern in game number 2. A lot of potential on this team but a few turnovers as well. I really like Thornton, our freshman point guard, good ball distribution on his part. Zed Key, center appears to be much improved this year!
Irish survive Radford with a 79-76 win. It was a 1 point Irish lead with 9 seconds left and Radford had the ball. All night long they had been able to get inside for layups and they did again but the kid didn't make the shot and we escaped. I thought really that Radford outplayed us, they were able to drive on us and they hit a lot of 3's. But a couple of things helped us get the win, a Flagrant 1 on them helped to get us close when we were down almost 10 late and then we got a favorable call on a block late as well. ACC refs!
The Lady Aggies opened the Joni Taylor era with a 67-45 win over A&M Corpus Christi. I really have no idea if they will challenge for anything this season or not.
