Looks like maybe Notre Dame and LSU have come out ahead with Kelly leaving. LSU sure looked good last night also.
I think Rees and Freeman finally stuck to the approach that we are very limited at QB, so don't ask him to win it. Instead, use him as a game manager and put this game on the shoulders of those in the trenches. If we do that, I think that's our recipe for success headed forward.
I have a question. How long did it take Brian Kelly to defeat four teams who were ranked in the Top 20? Did he ever do it?
Just saw on Twitter that ND's regular season record vs. the ACC the last 5 years is 27-0. Clemson is second at 36-3. We know two of those losses are to ND.
The ACC Championship game is likely to be between 1 loss Clemson and 1 loss UNC ...both lost to Notre Dame. Irish sneak back into the top 25 with that win over Clemson and given the game and the atmosphere surrounding it the recruiting weekend was bound to have been a big success. Hopefully that was a coming out party for Ben Morrison, he had a great game and is a freshman. No word on injuries, Justin Ademilola left late with some type of leg injury. He walked off but pretty gingerly. Big loss if he's out. That was the only one that I noticed when I got to watch the game last night. The OL played as a unit the whole game, not a single substitution. Pro Football Focus does a snap count and we only played 54 players between all three phases in a 35-14 win over No. 4 Clemson Saturday. The Irish deployed a season-low 19 on offense, 22 on defense, four specialists and nine players who appeared only on special teams. Notre Dame’s offense was on the field for 64 plays, including those nullified due to penalty. The Irish defense also played 64 snaps, including penalties.
ND can’t look ahead. Navy is Navy no matter what their record is. They will still give us fits and as I’ve said almost every yr as far as I can remember, I hate the Navy game.
Terry, Are you hearing theses rumblings about about Dante Moore flipping to Mich St? If that’s true then it really is a NIL thing and I’m glad he doesn’t come to SB. Sad if true
So I am seeing those rumblings, they go hand in hand with the rumors that Dan Lanning is the next Auburn coach. But I'm a bit surprised if it's MSU, I guess they are willing to match what ever he was going to make at Oregon in NIL money. There is no way he'd come back and chose the Irish as the family is all in on the NIL money up front which he won't get from the Brady Quinn Collective Freinds of Notre Dame. Also have you noticed Keon Keely hasn't given his verbal any place?
Years ago I used to brag that we'd won the Rose Bowl the years we beat both M and SC and they played there.
Terry, I know you haven’t started the Navy thread yet but I was thinking we already have an advantage, it’s on the road in a NFL stadium!!! We got this for sure!!
One of the other things that I had heard was going to happen, that was the 'sea of orange'. Clemson fans showing up in droves, like Georgia Fans, Like Nebraska Fans, last year even Cincinnati fans showed up in droves. But from watching the game there was no sea of Orange in the stadium. I'm guessing there never was going to be that invasion of Clemson fans, just rumors. Maybe ticket prices or hotel prices were too high.
Tim the good news is that Freeman saw Navy last year and when he was at Cincy as they were both in the AAC. Also Al Golden has faced Navy when he was at Temple and also faced Paul Johnson's Ga.Tech's triple option when he was at Miami. So that's a good thing. Charlie Weis of course never had faced Navy and he lost to them (twice) and neither had Brian Kelly/Bob Diaco when they lost to Navy (again twice).
Let's not forget that Marcus has faced Navy a number of times as a DC. All he has to remember is what Lou said "you don't defend the triple option, you attack it."
I found it interesting that Drew Pyne was named offensive player of the game. Both Freeman and Rees have publically gone in 100% on backing Pyne all the while the fans have gone the other way, many wanting him benched and have Angelli given the nod at QB. I ithough maybe they might give the offensive player of the game to the OL to tell you the truth.
All I can think of on Pyne is they are trying to give him some confidence by the mvp thing. He did “manage” the game well and actually made a couple of big plays with his feet when we needed it. As much as I’d like to see Angeli get some game time experience it wouldn’t have been in that game for sure. Bottom line is that Pyne doesn’t have a Div 1 arm in almost any way but.. he has most of the other abilities you need in your QB and has experience. I said this before but I’m hopeful Angeli can get some serious reps in the next two games but that would mean we would have to be up on either Navy or BC by over 4 TDs in the 4th qtr. probably not gonna happen. just a thought but what about Cade McNamara in the Portal? If he goes that route would that be one that ND considers?
