Yeah kp, the horns seem to be alone in this behavior of discouraging other bands to attend. There haven't been any problems with any SEC schools as far as I know. I get that it's a lot of seats to give up, but that's part of the college game atmosphere. Of course if the Bama band will wait until the end of the 1st quarter, they can probably have any seat they want as the Horn "faithful" are streaming out during the whipping...
Scott while I don't know where the Aggie Band sat you guys alwqys brought the full band to Austin and you got to do your usual half time show. It used to be a Corp trip as well back in my day with the Corp marching up Congress the day of the game.
Terry, I think we had a special agreement back before the split. It'll be interesting to see if that comes back or not.
Dabo getting paid! Clemson coach Dabo Swinney agreed to a new 10-year, $115 million contract Thursday, the largest college football coaching contract by total compensation. The new, enhanced contract runs through the 2031 football season and averages $11.5 million over 10 years. In 2022, Swinney is set to earn $10.5 million, just behind Alabama coach Nick Saban, who recently got a raise and extension that will pay him $10.7 million this season.
Rutgers stay in the B1G may be short-lived. This story is making the rounds in New Jersey and most people cannot detect any return on our tax investment. Rutgers athletics drops millions on credit card purchases (app.com)
Rutgers has spent ten million dollars in credit card charges on ultra-extravagances on coaches, players and recruits. 5 star restaurants and resorts, travel, the finest of everything since joining the B1G. And at the same time they are living like Jeff Bezos, the athletic department has lost $146 million in the last two years alone. Since they joined the B1G in 2014, Rutgers Athletics has lost at least $23 million in every year. They have also had budget shortfalls every year necessitating borrowing funds from other departments. And they just announced a 2.9% tuition increase to the general population. They have accumulated the biggest losses in major college sports. Anywhere. The students and NJ taxpayers are on the hook for all of it.
Wow that is nuts. I wonder if the new B1G contract will alleviate the financial strain. They will be getting close to a 100M every year.
Sounds like administrative incompetence coupled with an astonishing lack of internal control. Some very hard decisions ahead.
Much ado about what?...when I was in the Purdue Band we had the worst seats at home in Ross Ade Stadium...except maybe for visiting bands.
Here is an article about Rutgers’ expenditures that is not pay walled. Rutgers athletics spends big, builds debt in Big Ten
Tune in early Sat, they are going to do a whole show on "what if" Colt McCoy isn't taken our by Marcel Darius. I of course think the Longhorns would have won. Colt was the most valuable player in college football that season, he was so incredibly accurate throwing the ball in that offense. But of course he was injured and Texas didn't have a backup ready to play. So we lost.
Longhorn fans are pouring into the stadium, they sold more student tickets than they have seats. Opened the stadium early and it's first come first serve in the student section. It's wild and weird right now in Austin!!
There's a lot of good games this week. I'll be sitting in a downpour rooting for my little cheerleader from 4pm until about 7. For some reason, these youth games are longer than college or high school football games. If you ever read a story about a dad beating a clock operator senseless, it'll be me.
Texas has every reason to be excited. They have a new head coach, a dynamic quarterback and a 12 year old chip on their shoulder. For Alabama, it's another Saturday. Alabama is ripe for being upset. We'll see.
