I interpret this to mean Vanderbilt and Rutgers are on the chopping block? (Maybe a few other "chaff" schools as well?) I do wish that pro league the best.
I think they will have a hard time getting rid of Vanderbilt and Rutgers. I would be surprised if there weren't rules regarding how to remove a team from the conference. I remember Temple being booted from the Big East, but they failed to live up to the min stadium size and attendance marks.
I don't think Vanderbilt will be ousted unless they want out. I don't know what the Big 10 feels about Rutgers
I believe the gentleman on the right is employed at Rutgers in some undefined administrative capacity. I suspect the ADs of the other B10 do not want to get on his bad side by booting Rutgers out of the league.
Excellent point, Bobda. Plus, we certainly don't want to rile our resident Godfather, George. I'm curious about how this "possibly boot Rutgers" speculation started. Don't forget that one of the prime reasons for admitting Rutgers was to attract the NYC area TV market. That market hasn't gotten any smaller.
Who do you think has bigger market potential, Iowa City or metro NY-NJ? Better the B1G sent the Hawkeyes packing than Rutgers. Fuggedaboutit !
To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if Vandy eventually wants out of the SEC. Big time college football really does conflict with their apparent outlook, but I don't think the SEC will initiate any such move.

No I would imagine it will not be the same. The whole media rights/money is driving it to something that is easy to sell. That would be an NFL like structure of 40 + teams. I said in another reply I do think if it does then football should be separated from all the other sports and have their own media rights. Those schools will make the most money and they can share it with their other sports. re: Vandy, they are currently spending 200M to upgrade their football facilities. So I would imagine they would not be happy to be left out of the SEC sometime in the future. In fact if any of the teams currently in the Power 5 get dropped you can bet there will be some very angry fans/schools. They might not be able to do anything about it though. Big 10 16 teams SEC 16 teams ACC 15 teams Big 12 14 teams Pac10 10 teams That's 71 teams, if the Pac 10 brings in San Diego State, and a couple of others to replace what they have lost then we're up to maybe 75 teams including Notre Dame. Yeah, I just don't think Kansas State, TCU, Arizona State, Syracuse, etc are going to be in g the first plans. Invitations into the new organization will be somewhat selective, I think.
I see that Smart brought up taking the Ga/Fla game out of Jacksonville and playing it as home/home. Hard to imagine shutting down the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail party though. His reasoning was that it hurts Georgia recruiting because they can't invite recruits to anything not played at Athens. He said that in some years they only have 3 SEC home games due to playing in Jacksonville. Seems like Georgia has been trying to kill the game for quite a while now.
Smart just got a big raise. After guiding Georgia football to its first national championship in 41 years, coach Kirby Smart has agreed to a new 10-year contract that will pay him a record $112.5 million through the 2031 season. Sources told ESPN that the $112.5 million total would be the most ever paid to a college football coach. Smart's average salary of $11.25 million would also be tops among coaches. The university announced the long-anticipated contract extension Thursday. Smart will make $10.25 million this season, with his salary rising to $12.25 million by 2031.
Auburn did the same.thing to the Auburn/Alabama game. We used to play it in Birmingham. Auburn said it.was.a.home.game.for Alabama.

Didn't you dominate Georgia badly during the Spurrier Days, and didn't they complain (like Auburn) that it was a home game for the Gators and want to take it to on campus?
