Georgia and Alabama will be the talk of the SEC, Alabama with Will Anderson returning on defense is set to have the best defense in CFB and the returning Heisman winner at QB. Georgia has lightly regarded but Nat'l Championship QB in Stetson Bennett returning at QB. But who is the 3rd best team in the SEC?
A&M had a great recruiting class. I would think the pressure would be on Jimbo to improve soon. Tennessee seems to ready for improvement too. I'm not sure about Florida.
Everyone on the planet knows college offenses are all about the QB. If you have one, you are in good shape. The rest are HOPING. A&M is loaded everywhere... but our QB is a huge unknown. We have 3 excellent options, but one has to step up or we end up like last year - some nice highs, but also too many crappy lows.
My last trip to the Shoe resulted in the 1st home loss at night in a very long time for the Buckeyes . Had a great time with Stu, GMan, Josh, Big John and Stephen. Don't think the Irish though are even close to the 2005 Vince Young Longhorns.
I remember it well, tho not fondly. I recall I was looking forward to meeting a guy coming in from out of town and buying him a beer but he ended up ghosting me along with a couple of his other ne'er-do-well cronies.... I was gonna say, VY put them on his back that night and willed them to a come from behind victory. You don't get too many of those in a lifetime Doc, I don't see one of those guys wearing a gold helmet under center, at least not right now
No doubt, QB is a big unknown and instead of a very experienced HC and staff we have a promising up and Comer guy with a brand new staff. Buckeyes in 2022 probably better than the 2005 team wouldn't you say?
Interesting question....that 2005 team was getting ready to play for back-to-back natty's - 2006 and 2007 (losing both, ugh). This team has vastly more depth and talent at the skill positions but defensive questions abound. They will certainly field a championship caliber offense, the jury is out on the defense. They have great young talent, just no "bell-cows" as yet as well as a new D-coord and scheme. Speaking of defense, your guys Coach Freeman and his running mate Laurinaitis were stalwarts at linebacker for those teams. I don't see any of those guys on our defense this year.....sure could use a couple like that
That was the plan as I recall, we had cell problems due to VC crowds I guess so couldn't make it happen. That was another game with the G-man you're prob thinking about we met for a beer or two at the VC with his nephew(?) pre-game
It was a good thing we never hooked up with him on High Street. All reports from Texas fans who did go there were bad. Fan abuse.
To be honest with you, if we are going to 60 teams or even 48 teams, I think it's time to ditch the old conferences for Football and form a College Football Association, separate from the NCAA. Have our own Commiissoner, new rules, contracts with networks for Media rights for football only. Have 3 or 4 Divisions set up geographically. Come up with a unified schedule and not play games outside of the Association. Let the Non-Football sports remain in their conferences as in the past.
Terry, that's what I foresee with the Big10 and SEC expansions. I'm not sure if there will be a third conference but if a couple of more teams are added to the SEC and BIG10 that would bring it up to about 40 teams and like I said before the NCAA would become irrelevant and the 2 super conferences could pretty much dictate how college football operates at the highest levels.
No surprise here, in fact I thought it might be more. Alabama head football coach Nick Saban, discussing the new landscape of college football, told reporters on day two of SEC Media Days that his players made over $3 million in NIL deals last year.
It would be nice to know how much each schools players are getting in NIL. Ryan Day wss quoted as saying that the Buckeyes needed 13 M to maintain the program. He didn't say that was what his players were currently making, just that he sees that was a goal
Don I would imagine all the players are getting something, I know they are at Texas but nothing like what Ewers and Bijon Robinson (Heisman candidate at RB). Every OL is getting 50k for example. I saw on another board that the Texas Tech Collective is paying all 85 scholarship players 25k. That's over 2 million dollars.
Alabama is the consensus favorite to win the national championship, with odds around +180. Ohio State and defending champion Georgia are close behind with odds around 4-1. No other team has odds in the single digits. At DraftKings, Alabama has attracted four times as many national title bets as any other team. The largest reported national championship bet at Caesars Sportsbook placed so far is $100,000 on Alabama at 2-1. "They're the most loaded Alabama team I've ever seen," Salmons said, adding that he believes the Crimson Tide could be favored by double digits in each of their regular-season games. "They literally could field two teams that could get to the playoffs."
