Utah and CU heading to the Big12 would make sense. I wonder if former BigBevo members want a redo on their additions???
Somewhere, Tim wondered how JO'Co would feel about the news. Here's Corey's reaction on Facebook:: "I can't believe this is true. I'm so mad."
It wouild seem that the Big 10 would be wise to get some combination of Stanford, Oregon and Washington.
Nice move by the BIG... they know the SEC would probably get in on this, but the teams they'd want to pick from are tied up in the ACC. Let's add FSU, Clemson, and Ga Tech. (this is strictly so we can end the "one school from a state" monopolies, since they did it to A&M. )
Pac12 has responded to the loss of UCLA and USC, just as the B12. They are looking to replace and expand. Who is left that would be attractive? It would have to be MTN West teams. San Diego State, Fresno State, Utah State, Nevada, USAFA, Colorado State, Boise State, Wyoming?
Here's an interesting article about what else could happen. Notre Dame is featured prominently. College football realignment news: Notre Dame on deck; Pac-12, Big 12 could merge; SEC vs. Big Ten playoff?
For the first time Bill, I think it's more likely than not. The top of college football is going to be removed from the rest of the NCAA and the money will be flowing to the super conferences. It seems to me to be inevitable.
Bill, I'm the odd man out in this conversation. I don't think it will happen UNLESS ND is willing to give up its independent football scheduling status and UNLESS the $ difference is so great, it cant be ignored. My reasons include ND's loyalty to the ACC, which accepted ND "as is" when the Big10 would not allow independent scheduling. As a compromise, ND agreed to play 5 ACC teams each season. I believe that if the ACC holds its ranks together, it can remain intact and viable as a power conference. I don't believe it's as vulnerable as others seem to think. As I said elsewhere, I recognize I may be wrong, but that's how I feel. As always, we'll see.
Sid, I think the Big 10 and the SEC are going to come up with an alternative to the NCAA. Notre Dame is going to have to decide to participate in that or not. Now obviously this is all speculation, but I think the current picture is being overtaken by events.
Kyle, call me crazy. I just don’t see ND bowing to the unspoken edict of, “Get on the bus before there are no more seats.” Like it or not, ND’s situation is unique by choice. We’ve danced before with the B10 and it didn’t work out. The only thing that’s changed is the money. Everything else is speculation. I don’t know if the money is enough. I guess we’ll find out.
You're right about it all being speculation. Who would dreamed that USC and UCLA would.have moved.to the Big 10 or.that Texas and Oklahoma would go to the SEC? I wonder who's next?
I am sure Rutgers is happy to be in the BI0 and happy about the $$ that UCLA and USC will add to the B10’s media contracts but their campus in Piscataway is closer to Iceland (2728 miles) than it is to Los Angeles (2754 miles). The days of B10 schools being a day’s car ride from one another is long gone.
I think Notre Dame will opt for the Big Ten. The ACC might work except it is rumored that the SEC will make a move for Clemson and one other. That leaves ND in a bad spot. If the money is there as well as the direct path to the National championship this may be unavoidable and the B1G will be home.
Referring to George's post above, If the SEC successfully absorbs two or more ACC teams, thus reducing the long-term viability of the ACC, that changes everything regarding ND, and George's scenario is more likely than I believe it to be currently. Until it happens, I don't see ND surrendering its football independence.
