Sweet new ride for CJ Stroud. It looks like C.J. Stroud has made some excellent use of his NIL, partnering with luxury car dealer Sarchione Auto Gallery in Canton which will allow him access to a variety of high-end vehicles. Initially, the Columbus Dispatch reported that Stroud would be taking home a $150,000 Bentley Bentayga, but ABC6 reported that Stroud actually drove away in with a $200,000 Mercedes AMG G Wagon instead. According to ABC6, Stroud will try out multiple vehicles throughout the duration of the deal, swapping vehicles every 45-60 days. As part of the deal, Stroud will promote the auto dealership on social media and make public appearances at its gallery, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
I wonder how the taxes work, he has use of the car(s), but it doesn't appear the car was given to him. Seems like the IRS would deem it a taxable event.
You cannot convince me that this nonsense is good for team spirit or comradery. This really creates a caste system within the team.
You may be right, but in pro sports there are numerous instances of one or 2 players making significantly more money than the other players. In general QB'S make the most on every team and LT make more than the other OL's, Edge rushers make the most on the defense.
Well you know how crazy the internet can be and the latest crazy rumor being tossed around in that a 5 star QB from Michigan is commiting to ND. As big a ND fan as I am I'm not stupid enough to be sucked into this stuff. I mean, he's Lloyd Carr's grandson for Christ sake, he's the son of a former Mich QB and a 5 star QB. Come on man be real. Maybe we will be lucky with the other QB from Mich(Dante Moore) but I'm not falling for this.
Too late Tim, CJ Carr gave his verbal tonight to the Irish. Talk is that Freeman and Rees told Dante Moore we are moving on from him to avoid the NIL $$$ that his dad is reportedly looking for to obtain his commitment
So Lloyd did get some ND gear., will he put it on! He loves it. We got him a [Notre Dame] shirt and he loves Coach Rees and Coach Freeman and the things we've told him, he's really happy," Carr said. "I got my dad a shirt that says Notre Dame Dad, but my grandpa's is just a Notre Dame shirt."
Further proof that Kelly did as much as he could at ND but clearly another coach can take things a notch further at least in recruiting.
In all seriousness, it's a great story. The kid seems to be a great young man to boot. After listening to him speak it's hard to think of him as still just a sophomore going into his junior year. Really seems like a ND kid. There is no way Kelly would have gotten this kid. No way.
Congratulations to the Irish for the Carr commitment. Looks to me like the Irish made out alright when Kelly went to LSU.
We like him, but this is his first head coaching job, will his enthusiasm, hard work in recruiting, etc result in wins?
I see that Tim Tebow is on the College Football HOF ballot for the 1st time. He had such a great college career I'll be shocked if he doesn't get in on the first ballot. Alex Smith (Utah) is another Urban Meyer QB on the ballot for the first time. Ryan Leaf is also on the ballot, I imagine his off the field problems will impact voters. Other notable names as first-time candidates: Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma linebacker Rocky Calmus, Penn State running back Ki-Jana Carter, Oregon running back LaMichael James, Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly, Oklahoma defensive lineman Dewey Selmon and Memphis running back DeAngelo Williams.
I sure hope Luke Kuechley gets in. I think he is one of the Top 5 MLBers who ever played at any level. He was a tackling machine.
Looks like the excellence at WR will continue for the Buckeyes. I see that the #3 WR in the 247 Composite, Carnell Tate has given them his verbal and it's thought that his good friend and the #2 WR, Brandon Inniss will be also be a Buckeye. Awesome group of WR in Columbus. OSU is up to #2 in the rankings for 2023. What I don't see is a QB in the class and there are only 3 in the top 20 QB's in the 2023 class that are not committed. None of them list Ohio State in their possible schools. Don, Stu are you guys not going to take a QB this cycle. Irish are facing that as well. It's risky with the QB's usually the first to hit the Portal.
There is a strong possibility Day may pass on a QB in this class. We have three excellent QBs now on board, of course things can always change.
Stroud is gone after this year, leaves you with 2 guys and no freshman coming in, but I imagine Day will have an eye on the Portal
