Miami's lineup is mostly Fr and Sophs, they are going to be good. They also are tall and rangy and athletic. Irish looked small compared to those guys. Not surprising, Miami in their dominant days were made of a lot great players who grew up in South Florida, might be that they are getting that back again.
Apparently I got the percentages wrong in my previous prediction. The Irish did hold on to the #4 seed. VT got the #1, and somehow Louisville snuck past Miami for #2. I guess they didn't factor the Louisville tie into it... I did. One week of tourney play, and then the sh!t gets real.
As Scott noted the Irish ended up with the #4 seed. But since the ACC is playing in 3 team pods, nobody gets a bye. Irish are in a pod with FSU and Virginia. Each team in the four pools will play one game against each of the other two opponents in its pool Tuesday through Friday (May 24-27). The four teams with the best records within their respective pools will advance to Saturday’s semifinals, with the winners playing on Sunday in the ACC Championship Game.
Ohio State finally gives up on Greg Beals with one year remaining on his baseball contract. About time in my opinion, hopefully we can find some one with experience and the fire to turn the program around. This has been one of the weakest programs in sports the past few years.
Longhorn Softball made the Super Regionals and are headed to Fayetteville to play the Hogs. Hope it turns out better than when the football team visited last fall. They are going all out to welcome the 'horns!
Softball is fun to watch. I know that Alabama softball team has a lot of grit and a lot of athletic ability. They didn't make the super regionals this season but I really enjoy their competitive spirit.
iI have watched parts of a few games recently. I am amazed at the speed and power of these young ladies. A quick windup and swish the ball is in the catchers mitt.
Oklahoma and their coach Patty Grasso are the Alabama of Softball. "You're women amongst girls," she says. Gasso means this figuratively, of course, but she's also plainly right. At 52-2, Oklahoma's stat line as a team is -- to put it clinically -- preposterous. The Sooners lead the country in batting average (.369), ERA (0.81), home runs per game (2.46), scoring per game (9.26) and slugging (.730). They regularly do their opponents dirty, outscoring them 500-47 for the season, blanking them 31 times overall (including seven no-hitters) and run-ruling them in 37 out of 54 attempts. Pause to really marinate with this: In a season that has spanned more than 50 games, almost 70% of the time opposing teams have, essentially, begged for mercy. On Sunday, the Sooners beat Texas A&M 20-0 in five innings, which was the largest margin of victory in NCAA tournament history and sent them to the super regionals against UCF.
The game Saturday between the Aggies and Sooners was 3-2. The ladies in maroon were not very good this year but gave OU a run in their first regional meeting. Unfortunately there was no gas left in the tank for the second meeting...
The Aggies finally got to take on the Gators in their first game of the SEC tourney after massive rain delays. 10-0 after 7, so game is ended. I'm stupefied that we held the Gator bats to one hit, and we rested our #1 pitcher in hopes that a problem with his foot will have time to heal up before the NCAA games begin.
Saw that your longhorns beat TCU today. I suspect that should get a regional in Austin, if it wasn't already set to happen.
Apparently win or lose the Irish advance. If we lose tomorrow everyone in our pool will be 1-1,in that case the highest seeded team in the pool advances. Sounds like they need to not throw a weekend pitcher, save him for the semifinal
The Aggies taking on the Tide tonight. For about half the game the Aggies had more errors than hits (5). The bats have come alive, and my boys now lead 11-6 in the 7th.
Wow, Wake destroyed Miami today, 16-3. Miami was surely in consideration for a Top 8 seed, but maybe not now? UNC is putting it to VT 9-0, but the crappy ACC website won't give me the feed so not sure what inning.
Big Ten tournament in Omaha. 8-seed IU avoided elimination by eliminating 4-seed Illinois 8-1. Rainouts have forced late games ending after 2 am. Tonight's late game is 1-seed Maryland vs. 5-seed Michigan. Loser plays IU.
Aggies looking good Scott. Great throw in the 9th inning to nail the runner at second base. Nice touch by the second baseman to nip the runner as well on the slide.
