Rory has a great opening round, Scottie Scheffler struggled and Tiger finished at 74 and says that his leg hurt. The guys following him said it was evident after about 7 holes that something was wrong with Tiger. Jordan Speith who played well in winning at Harbor Town and at the Colonial last week also struggled and finished +2. Lots of complaints about the sand traps.
Rory slips Tiger makes the cut Bubba Watson shoots a 63 and is in the mix Will Zalatoris still looks like he weighs a 120 soaking wet is in the lead at -9. The Golf Channel said that historically in the 10 PGA championships played at Southern Hills that the last 10 out of 10 36 hole leaders have gone on to win. The guy chasing him I've never heard of but he had a heck of around to get -8.
JT missed a good birdie opportunity and Mito hits a great 2nd shot on the par 5 for a sure birdie and his lead is back to 2 shots. His challengers just so far can't make the shots/putts when needed
Jack never seemed to enjoy playing on the Senior circuit. He ended up with two hip replacements I believe. Some individuals like Hale Irwin, Tom Watson and the ageless Bernhard Langer can play competitive golf well into their 60's. Some lose their flexibility, concentration and competitiveness. I think Tiger is going to lose all 3 early.
He opened the door again on 14 with a bogey but neither Will or Cam could make their putts to pull into a tie for the lead
Cam Young is done, double on 16, Will is on life support with bogey on 16. JT needs to birdie on 18 after a great drive, if he pars he will need Mito to stumble coming down the stretch.
Great 2nd shot by JT, but can he make that putt? Make and he's in the clubhouse at - 6 a good position.
Nope he couldn't do it, he's had several putts like that and couldn't get them to drop. Still a very good round today he's in the clubhouse 1 shot down to Mito, pressure is on Mito to close it out now. Playoff?
Awful tee ball by Mito, who will now have to scramble just to make bogey and get into a playoff with Will and JT.
