Maybe this shouldn't be a new topic but I didn't see an obvious place for it. Lane Kiffin on recruiting. Players going to where they will be paid the most. NIL rules the day I guess. Lane Kiffin: Recruits ‘go to where they’re going to get paid the most’
Unintended consequences. I'm not sure that people saw kids becoming millionaires before they play a down. Now it's a money grab. So much is changing so fast and I fear we are losing the game we love
Leave it to Lane to deflect why he's not rolling in 5 stars. Guess Ole Miss blew all their money while Freeze was there...
The kids run the game now. They control everything. They'll tell you where they will play, when they will play and for how long they will play. And they may leave at any moment and there is not a damn thing you can do about it. Money ruins everything.
TE Jake Johnson signs with A&M... Guess we will have a little more QB depth this spring assuming his brother follows. Didn't see that coming!!
Irish have signed all those who were expected to sign except those West Coast kids who are expected to sign. The one that is up in the air is WR Amorion Walker who will sign this morning with that drama filled hat deal, ND/Michigan/Alabama I don't expect him to sign with ND, he's had one foot out the door on his verbal almost since the day he gave it. He's talented and if he comes and fits in at ND then he should be a good player. Irish lost out on Devin Moore - Flipped to Florida C J Williams - it's expected it will be USC, but maybe UCLA just that he's staying on the West Coast. Still will be a good class esp with a really great OL group. If Walker doesn't sign the WR class will have gone from good to deficient and they'll need to look at the portal.
The portal will be very handy for situations just like that Terry. At least it has a tiny little upside...
Amorion Walker to Michigan. Not a bit surprised. Off to the Portal!! Although for the Irish we rarely take undergrad transfers, almost all of our transfers have been Grad Transfers. So that has a limiting factor. When Kelly was here he said undergrad transfers were problematic for ND due to academics and fitting them into the ND curriculum. Grad transfers are easier as they are starting fresh with whatever program they enroll in.
So that's it for the Irish, all the recruits on the board have signed. Lost out on C J Williams, Devin Moore and Amorion Walker.
Longhorns flipped a couple of guys late, a DL from Michigan, who played HS football at Austin Westlake (Drew Brees) and a 5 star CB from Ohio State, he was also a Texas kid. Really solid finish for Sark's first class where he had a full year to recruit, 247 has Texas currently at #5. 1. Georgia 2. Alabama 3. Texas A&M 4. Ohio State 5. Texas 6. Penn State 7. Notre Dame 8. North Carolina ...Mack can still recruit 9. Michigan 10. OU ..sort of surprised to see them here as they lost some of their higher rated recruits when Riley left including a 5 star QB. This can change as the day goes on though.
Internet rumors that #1 overall recruit CB Travis Hunter possilby could flip from FSU to Jackson State to play for Coach Primetime. I won't be shocked if somebody has put out some serious NIL money for him to flip to Jackson State! Of course it's just a rumour.
Amongst the Longhorns is a 4 star QB (Maalik Murphy) from California who has been a verbal since Feb, and I was wondering if he would sign today given that he's now in the same class with 5 star Quinn Ewers. As of this minute he has not signed his LOI.
I saw that Sark got an Aggie legacy: Terrance Brooks son of Chet Brooks who happens to be the guy credited with coining the "Wrecking Crew" moniker for those 80's and 90's defenses. As far as I know A&M was never in the picture. Wonder what the story was there?
Don't know any backstory on it, I was surprised that the flipped from Ohio State, who until this year has been a great defense putting lots of guys in the NFL. As opposed to Texas who has not had a great defense in years and hasn't put many people into the NFL. I'm sure that they sold him on playing early with our depth chart as opposed to waiting his turn on a loaded Ohio State squad.
