Hamilton was expected but like just about every ND fan we're disappointed that we won't see Williams one more time. He's a gamer who when the OL was struggling made something out of nothing. He's a good interview too. Hope he goes high in the draft.
Irish Men's soccer loses to Clemson on penalty kicks in the college cup. Was a good season for the squad.
Interesting recruiting story development. ND baseball commit Jack Lausch, who is also a very talented HS Qb and was planning on walking on to the team as a QB, has recently received a full scholarship offer in football from Northwestern. Baseball only gives out partial scholarships. So big decision on the $ aspect. People familiar with the Chicago Catholic League say that this kid is a great athlete and had a great HS career at Brother Rice. Heard this before? Jack Coan was a lacrosse commit to Notre Dame, then Wisconsin offered the full ride in football. The rest is history. 2022 Notre Dame Commit Jack Lausch Preparing for Signing Day
Irish Men's Basketball welcomes Kentucky to the JACC today. I am only hoping to not lose by more than 20 points. The women welcome Purdue - Ft Wayne. I expect a much better outcome! I note it's no longer Indiana - Purdue, just Purdue.
Shows you how much I know. Irish take down #10 Kentucky in a terrific game in South Bend. 66-62. Hero was freshman Blake Wesley who hit a jumper in the lane to give them the lead 64 - 62. Kentucky had one more shot but couldn't get it to go down Irish got the rebound and a slam by Dane Goodwin at the buzzer. Irish students /fans of course rushed the court. Marcus Freeman was there and gave a short speech, no doubt what got the team fired up for the game! Laphonzo Ellis was put in the Ring of Honor today. The Irish apparently have never lost a Ring of honor game. TOK's take /prediction on the game a few days ago.
ND photographer Matt Cashore captured Dane Goodman right after he flushed the dunk at the end of the game.
Notre Dame has landed a top cornerback in the 2023 recruiting class as Bishop Gorman (Nev.) 4 star Justyn Rhett has committed to the Fighting Irish. Another good get.
The Marcus Freeman effect! Now I hope coach can work the magic on CJ Williams and the wayward Amorion Walker who continues to confound Irish recruitniks with his visits and statements about other coaches and teams. I thought he would have already decommited but I guess he wants to shock the world with his signing day pronouncements
Because ND had a head coaching change they were allowed to have official visits from all their recruits. Many came for the weekend with almost all those not coming having good reasons such as receiving the state Mr. Football awards or being in their state's wrestling final. One of the activities was taking the kids to the basketball game last night. As the old saying goes, that can't hurt.
Thank you, George. He's been the Secretary-Treasurer since its inception. It's a labor of love for him as it is for all the former players who are involved. The foundation has grown a lot and quietly is doing great things across the country. He considers himself blessed to be a part of it. On a personal level, I've attended a few functions with him, including the annual reunion each year in South Bend at the second home game. I've met and visited briefly with Coach Holtz and former players, names you would recognize, all of whom are living examples of the promise that if you spend four years at Notre Dame, you'll benefit for the next forty years (and beyond). We - I and Gipper and my all my Skybox ND friends - are blessed (and in my case, humbled) to be a part of the Notre Dame family. Side note: He told me about a very nice exchange he had with Terry on NDN before or during the Army-Navy game. Small world.
Yes I enjoyed our brief exchange. At first I didn't know who I was chatting with, I was just complimenting him on his daughter who is a plebe at the USNA, when he injected our connection. I immediately knew it was you and I remember you telling us about being at the Navy game with your family including of course your granddaughter. You are a blessed man Sid!
Irish Hockey splits the weekend with Michigan State, losing last night in OT. Today the Irish Women take on Purdue-Ft. Wayne. It should be a relatively easy win, but then that's what everybody thought about Valpo and they fought us tooth and nail through most of 3 periods and then we wore them down and pulled away for win that wasn't as easy as the final score.
It has to be an odd feeling for Brian Kelly. Since he left the Irish there has been an outpouring of disdain for him from the fanbase and love for Marcus Freeman. Nothing he's done, the playoff appearances, the great record the last 5 years mean anything. He's pretty much persona non gratis to most if not all Irish fans.
