Hope it's true. Got to hold the recruiting class together. Wonder if MF will hire a new DC before the next game or just keep on handling the D by himself.
Some risk, but seems like the smart way for ND to go. And I will add that I like this outcome selfishly. Kelly recruiting to L$U does not particularly worry me. If he had brought Rees and Freeman along then it becomes much more of a war.
My dream scenario. Attrition among the 5 teams ahead of ND puts us in the playoffs and we win it all. Not impossible. Here's a representative sample - from a highly reliable source - of how former players feel about Kelly:
I know when I heard that speil I immediately thought it was a backhanded swipe at the guys he just left.
6. Oklahoma has had seven players decommit from the 2022 and 2023 classes since it was announced that Lincoln Riley was headed to USC. They’ve also added three former high profile recruits in the transfer portal on top of that. As The Athletic’s Jason Kersey described it, Oklahoma football is teetering on the brink of chaos. It will likely only get worse until they hire a new coach. That hasn’t happened at Notre Dame and with the promotion of Marcus Freeman and by keeping Rees, Balis, Elston, and everybody else, it’s not going to happen. It’s exactly why it’s not just about “fit”. It has to also be about “fast”. The longer it would have taken to name a new coach, the more it opened up the possibility for the recruiting class to fall apart and for players to look elsewhere. People may not like that, but that is the reality of college football today.
I don't know where they go to get their homerun hire? Clearly not on the current staff that remains as Riley took the top asst with him to USC. Matt Campbell? He's a good coach, and while you might say he's overachieved at ISU, but this year with something like 21 returning starters and a pre-season top 10 ranking and also a QB some say is a NFL QB and a really good RB And TE. He got off to a slow start and basically had a very average season. So to me he underachieved at least this year and guess what all those seniors and 6th year guys are gone now, it's back to business as usual at Iowa State. If it was going to be Brent Venables I'd have thought that deal would be done, Clemson is not playing this weekend and is not in the CFP so really nothing holding Venables back from coming right now.
Adrian Martinez apparently has entered the transfer portal. He might have read somewhere that OK might become Nebraska.
Didn't see this coming. Bronco Mendenhall of UVA resigned today. It's not like he's had some great run at UVA, and his record wast 34-36 in 6 years. But apparently it was out of the blue. Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall announced his resignation Thursday after six seasons leading the Cavaliers. No reason was given for Mendenhall's decision, though he has committed to lead the program through it's bowl game, which will be announced Sunday.
In an odd move the Clemson AD, resigned and took the Miami job. I would think that the Clemson AD would be a much better job than Miami.
I'm not sure that the AD at Clemson has any say about the football program. That seems to be the province of Dabo.
Seems as if Miami has not signed the Clemson AD yet, but is expecting to do so soon. Also sounds like Cristobal will make the move to Miami
