It's hard to believe that Alabama is still number 2. I guess a win is a win. After Georgia, I'm not sure who should be in.
Also a little odd that Michigan State beat Michigan but is now ranked behind them. Doesn't really matter as both of them have significant games to close out the season and things will sort themselves out.
Jimbo calls out SEC refs, says he's sick and tired of them. I wonder what the SEC will do, I'm pretty sure coaches face consequences for calling out the officials. They can submit complaints to the SEC office but they aren't supposed to publically make comments. I wonder if he'll be fined or even suspended for a half or something like that? Jimbo Fisher is 'sick and tired' of SEC officiating COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher says he’s “sick and tired” of SEC officiating, pointing to what he considered questionable calls and no-calls in wins over Alabama and Auburn. “Here’s what gets me,” Fisher said Monday. “You can do that (slaps hands) and get a delay of game, you can do that (chops hands) and get a delay of game, but (an opponent) can call a snap count and it ain’t a penalty.
The no call on Auburn piling into our punter had him fired up too. Auburn always seems to bring their personal refs when we play at Kyle.
Is everyone sick of how inconsistent (and at times how horrible) refs are? The obvious answer is to prevent any criticism! Yes, because if the coaches aren't allowed to publicly criticize blatant errors, then those blatant errors could not possibly have been blatant.
I'm sure that the Conference officials would tell you that there is a process for coaches to criticize the officials and that it should be followed. That coaches calling out officials publically undermines the intergrity of the process...or some such crap like that! One good thing about being an independent is that Brian Kelly can't be fined or suspended by a Conference Office for his comments. Now that doesn't mean there are no consequences as I can't imagine if he regualarily called out the ACC officials who do our games wouldn't result in those guys taking it out with even more flags.
Not that it makes a difference but Penn State with wins over top 25 Auburn and Wisconsin and a close game at Columbus with Ohio State isn't ranked in the top 25. Auburn, Wisconsin and Penn State are all 6-3, so I guess head/head doesn't count when you have 3 losses.
I was thinking that Ole Miss/A&M would be a pretty even game, but listening to ESPNU they say that Ole Miss right now is too beat up to take down A&M.
Interesting situation with CAL. I didn't know this but due to Covid positive tests they played Arizona last week with only 42 scholarship players (they lost). So this week CAL petitioned the Pac12 to allow the game with USC to be postponed and played Dec 4th instead. Which is the week after the Pac12 Championship game. I know in the B12 there is no rescheduling, if you can't play due to Covid you forfeit. The USC-California football game scheduled for Saturday has been postponed, Cal announced Tuesday. "It was a difficult decision to postpone this Saturday's game against USC," Cal athletic director Jim Knowlton said in a statement. "We know how important every one of our games is to our student-athletes, especially our seniors who have been incredible representatives of the program, but it was the right thing to do. "Due to additional impact on specific position groups, we have decided to postpone Saturday's game. We have had multiple COVID-19 positives within our program, and we are taking every step we can to mitigate the spread and protect the greater community." The schools later agreed, and received Pac-12 approval, to reschedule the game for Dec. 4 -- a day after the conference title game. That follows the precedent set when the Big Game between Cal and Stanford was postponed in 2018, due to poor air quality. Cal was undermanned for its game at Arizona on Saturday, with approximately 42 scholarship players in uniform after roughly two dozen tested positive during the week. The team, which has a 99% vaccination rate among players, experienced additional positive cases after the Arizona game, the school said. USC-Cal postponed to Dec. 4 due to COVID-19 I missed this article last Sat about the CAL/Arizona game Arizona ends 20-game skid vs. depleted Cal team
It's been a while but back when Penn State was first in the Big 10, JoePa regularly complained about Big 10 officials and after one loss to Michigan, I think, he complained that it wasn't fair that the entire crew was from Michigan. Of course ND fans also complained about Big 10 refs, back in the 80's the Big 10 wouldn't allow non-conference teams playing Big 10 teams at Big 10 venues to bring their officials, something that is done all the time now.
Ohio State finishes the season vs 4 currently ranked teams. Purdue, Mich State, Michigan and then a likely ranked Big 10 West Champion. If they win out will they jump to #2 over Alabama? Not likely if Alabama wins out and beats Georgia. I think that might be the hardest thing for the committee to handle. Alabama losing a close game to Georgia, Oregon losing to Utah next week, and Cincinnati losing to Houston in the AAC title game. Georgia is a shoo in as undefeated team. So I would see the top 2 as Georgia and Ohio State, who is #3 and #4? Alabama ..2 losses. Mich State ...2 losses Michigan ..2 losses Cincinnati ...1 loss..fatal to them? Oklahoma? They could finish undefeated...so pencil them in as #3 Notre Dame ...could finish with 1 loss...if Cincy finishes with 1 loss how does the committee ignore the head to head? Don't know. But putting the Irish in at #4 will be pretty controversial given the head to head. What if the 1 loss teams are, besided Ohio State who would be in as 1 loss Big 10 Champion. Cincy OU ..very well could lose a game ND Wake Forrest ..not likely they end up as a 1 loss team. So what do you do?
I don't think a 2 loss team should be in the playoffs. I guess if there are no 1 loss candidates then there could be an exception but it would have to be a really rare situation. I would even consider the University of Central Cincinnati or whatever be put in.
Re: 2 loss teams...while I would agree in general, it's still possible for some crazy things to happen. Like Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Oregon to all finish with 2 losses. Leaving Georgia, OU (no worse than 1 loss), Cincinnati, Notre Dame ...even as an Irish fan I don't really think of our team as a playoff caliber team. Just too many holes, Freshmen on the OL, Transfer QB who is not mobile, schedule just very average or below average. Cincy certainly beyond ND hasn't played a great schedule either. As I said...a good year for that 12 team playoff. Question, when was the last time Alabama beat Auburn in Jordan Hare?
I smell RAT POISON!!! I'd say they are sand-bagging a little. Miss will likely get their two best WR's back, so they aren't without weapons. I seriously doubt Heisman Corrall is as bad off as they are playing it.
