That's a shame, Charlie Morton is a good guy. Yuli Guriel's comebacker hit him in the leg and it seemed OK and he faced a few more batters before it gave out. He's done for the series. Braves get the win 6-2. Astros in a must win situation tonight.
Braves are a classic example of a team getting hot at the end and blowing through the playoffs. No doubt that the Giants and the Dodgers were the best teams in the NL and probably in MLB during the regular season. Close behind might have been the Brewers. Tampa Bay was clearly the best team in the regular season in the AL. Yet the Braves are now the favorites to win the WS, of course the Astros aren't dead yet as Boston can attest to after the ALCS. This is from The Athletic. Like Dante at the Quick Stop, the Braves aren’t even supposed to be here. Eighty-eight wins in a terrible NL East does not equal a ticket to the World Series. But with an upcoming labor battle, the Braves can be looked at from both sides as an example of what’s working. The owners could say Atlanta’s ride shows the playoffs should be expanded, to give more teams a shot of winning. The players could say the Braves are showing why teams shouldn’t fold their tents at the All-Star break, trading high-priced talent for cheaper prospects. On July 29, the day before the trading deadline, the Braves won to improve to 51-53, which put them five games back and in third place in the division. The Mets and Phillies had to implode, sure, but Atlanta reloaded its roster in July, with its best player out for the reason, and here they are.
All pretty close...if we're gonna nitpick too much we should just go to the machines. I mean according to those stats, 151 of 159 pitches were correctly called...I'd say that's doing pretty well.
I do think that eventually we will be looking at Machines/AI type of technology to call balls and strikes.
This doesn't take into account pitches inside and outside the strike zone that weren't called: swings and misses, foul balls, swings for hits, etc., only pitches that land in the catcher's mitt. For what it's worth, I believe it would be pure insanity to introduce machines/computers to call balls and strikes. In every sport, there's imperfection. Very rarely, and only in a close game, is there one call - ball, strike, out, safe - which makes a difference in the outcome. In every single baseball game ever played on all levels, there were multiple game situations which affected the outcome, not just ball/strike calls. The game has survived the human umpire factor from the beginning. Why change? To satisfy the vocal few? I sure hope not.
I hear what you are saying Sid, but you can't hold back the tide. We have more instant replay than ever before including in baseball. Every time TV shows you how a call was wrong or missed and are told it isn't reviewable you have fans wanting it to be reviewed. Replay review is expanding not contracting and it will eventually get to balls and strikes.
Pretty interesting. On the TV it looks like more missed calls but that strike box they show on tv does not account for depth perception. It can look like a strike but not be a strike when it crosses the plate.

Yes to being a Marlins fan, however where I live now is very close to Atlanta, a couple of hours, and I just have a decent interest in them and family and friends in Atlanta. Not all that big of a deal. I think Houston is the better team and will most likely win.
1-1 split at home, just like the ALCS with Boston. I don't have the same feeling that we are going to take 2 out of 3 from the Braves in Atlanta though.

While you’ve been booing, they’ve been carving a place in history that is going to be hard for any infield, now or 200 years from now, to top. Wednesday night, in their 41st postseason win as a group, they all played in their 69th consecutive postseason game together. I find that mind-blowing. You know how many infields have ever done that? Right. None. But that’s not even the new news here.
I see that a Roller Derby team of the same name is suing the Clevland Guardians. I wonder how much the Roller Derby folks will settle for in order to be good with sharing their name?
How dumb...I knew there was the roller derby team but I figured FOR SURE the Indians were smart enough to have dealt with that first and worked it out. Maybe they just figured they could strong arm their way past the issue. Lots of luck with that.
