This might be a little over the top for mask wearing but the rosary beads do add to the outfit. Hope her 37 cats are Covid free.
Anecdotal report from a MD on NDNation In Southeast Virginia, the last couple weeks has been as bad as anything we've seen in COVID. I admitted more COVID patients in the last few week than I did at any other time during COVID. What is different 1. All are unvaccinated (well this isn't different from before, but it's significant) except the rare elderly or immunocompromised patient 2. Almost all of our admissions are 30-60 years old. Most have few to no comorbidities 3. These people look terrible. I intubated at least one a shift, and to be clear we weren't intubating hardly anyone at the peak of COVID last winter because they responded to high flow oxygen. These younger people aren't responding as as well 4. I've admitted three kids so far in the last 2 weeks. I didn't admit one kid last fall 5. Not one person who is getting admitted or is in the ED feeling like a truck ran over them is still happy they didn't get vaccinated. All regret their decision 6. The 70 year old unvaccinated mother of a Florida COVID Nurse who was taking HCQ and ivermectin for her COVID just got extubated today and is doing well on High Flow oxygen at 40L/min, so that's good news for her. Daughter decided to get vaccinated a few days ago. 7. I still have yet to admit one person with a vaccine reaction.
So what he's saying is kids are still at very low risk. From the news you'd think they were digging mass graves for kids in the Texas school districts that are not requiring masks. Some more "anecdotal" data: my wife's entire 5th grade has had one kid out so far during this spike.
That's a good point, and certainly while cases are up significantly in the Houston area it's not like we have thousands of kids in the hospital, but still it's very troubling to me. I hope Mr. Urbina's child doesn't get sick, I hope no child gets sick. I wonder if his child didn't like wearing a seatbelt would he let her not wear a seat belt? From a CNN article: Medical experts in the Houston area, which is where Humble ISD is located, are sounding the alarm about the record number of children contracting the coronavirus and requiring hospitalization. "Over the past week we reached a peak in terms of the number of children hospitalized in a 24-hour period with Covid-19 at Texas Children's," Dr. James Versalovic, interim pediatrician in chief at Texas Children's Hospital, told CNN Wednesday. Last Wednesday, Versalovic told CNN his hospital had seen more than 65 pediatric patients in the previous week, a record number. And children were showing up sicker than previously seen. Despite the record numbers, CNN observed some parents walking their children to a Humble ISD school last week without a mask and asked if their kids would be wearing masks in the classroom. "It's a personal choice," Jaime Urbina told CNN. Urbina says his 7-year-old daughter, who attends second grade, doesn't like wearing a mask. He says he knows the virus is real -- because he lost his mother to Covid-19 last May, on Mother's Day. But just like he doesn't impose his will on others, he says, he expects the same in return when it comes to masks
I try to stay out of the policy arguments but post things that are factual and relevant. For the most part I have believed the CDC to be scientists doing their best to provide "best practices" based on true evidence...and since that changes and evolves so do their recommendations. However tonight I have lost most if not all respect for the CDC; Health Equity: CDC Goes All In on Woke Speech | National Review WTH are they doing wasting their time on this crap when their JOB is disease prevention?
Here's an article about a study from the University of Miami showing that getting the flu vaccine may decrease the occurrence of the more severe symptoms of COVID; Influenza Vaccine Helps Reduce Some Severe Outcomes From COVID-19
We just saw them lose in court when they did the bidding of the Biden administration and tried to extend the eviction moratorium. Our government and our schools are infested with these woke zealots. One of the greatest successes of our history is the "melting pot" which is constantly under attack with these dividers who were put in charge of our country.
Thanks for both of those articles Stu. I got nuthin' for the CDC, they have gone off into the crazy zone... They are also trying to go along with the "epidemic of gun violence" as if it's an infectious disease as well. Interesting that while the indications show the flu shot reduced bad symptoms, it made no difference in deaths... that seems odd, especially if one reduced is stroke.
Once a touchy subject in the private sector, a new survey indicates that most firms are now planning on having COVID-19 vaccine mandates for their workforce. The number of companies requiring workers to get the shot is expected to surge over the next several months, according to data released by Wednesday by Willis Towers Watson, a multinational advisory and insurance firm. Majority of companies plan to have COVID-19 vaccine mandate, survey finds
I doubt if this moves the needle for those who feel masks are of little value, and for those like me who feel that they are of value it validates my feelings. ____________________________ The authors of a study based on an enormous randomized research project in Bangladesh say their results offer the best evidence yet that widespread wearing of surgical masks can limit the spread of the coronavirus in communities. Massive randomized study is proof that surgical masks limit coronavirus spread, authors say
Interesting development, as we see more and more employers mandating vaccinations. John Smoltz and Al Leiter will no longer work in-studio at MLB Network after refusing to get vaccinated, according to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post. However, Marchand reports that Smoltz and Leiter will still be allowed to work remotely for MLB Network (again, they’re high-profile analysts, so perhaps they get an opportunity with this compromise that few would), and Smoltz will still call a Division Series in October. Hall of Famer John Smoltz and former Met and Yankee Al Leiter will no longer appear in-studio for MLB Network after refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine, The Post has learned. MLBN has made it mandatory for all employees to be vaccinated, with the mandate going into effect Sept. 1. MLBN executives, Smoltz and Leiter made a compromise to keep them on-the-air, but not in the Secaucus studios. They will both appear remotely for the shows. Smoltz and Leiter have provided analysis for MLB Network at the Secaucus, NJ-located studios for many years. John Smoltz and Al Leiter reportedly barred from MLB Network studio work after refusing vaccine
Pretty stringent mandate will be coming down from Biden via Executive Order. No option to opt out and be tested on a regular basis. I assume the usual medical and religious options will be there for those who choose to try to opt out with those. While I'm aware of the medical issues, I don't know what religious objections qualify? From the article it's not clear that even those with medical or religious objections will be allowed to opt out, esp since apparently there is no option for regular testing. It will be controversial that's for sure. ______________________________________________________________ President Joe Biden on Thursday will impose more stringent vaccine rules on federal workers, and take steps to encourage private businesses to do the same, during a major speech meant to lay out a new approach to combating the coronavirus. Among the steps the President will take is signing an executive order requiring all federal workers be vaccinated against Covid-19, with no option of being regularly tested to opt out of the requirement, according to a source familiar with the plans. The President will also sign an executive order directing the same standard be extended to employees of contractors who do business with the federal government. The Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Indian Health Service and National Institutes of Health will also complete their previously announced vaccination requirements, which the White House estimates covers 2.5 million workers. That's kind of a straw man situation since we already know the vaccine does not prevent you from getting the virus. I'm still for vaccinations but that lady is being loaded up with more guilt than she deserves...
Respectfully I don't think that's a straw man, Scott. It depends which expert I'm reading in the media or on twitter, but my understanding is that though yes you can still get COVID after the vaccine it is much less likely for you to do so. I agree with you about the guilt. The little girl may have gotten it anyway. Why should Mom feel guilty when so many folks have scared her on social media? Those who should feel guilt after these things occur (but won't) are those who have made this BEYOND political...it's now practically a TRIBAL issue where instead of trying to objectively look at the whole of the evolving evidence (yes, it changes), folks grab every scrap of material that confirms their PRECONCEIVED notions and ignore anything that goes against those notions. Instead of just deciding on their own to not take the vaccine they have to spread the antivax mantra to everybody they can reach on social media...scaring many away. I don't know where this is all going to take us, but I don't like it. Yeah, preconceived notions go both ways...I try (successfully or not) to be objective and look at the bulk of the data, both bad and good. But it galls me when it's easier to get people to take horse worm pills than to get a proven, studied vaccine. Folks keep saying "well, if you're vaccinated you're unlikely to get seriously ill or die, so why should you worry if others choose not to?" Well, the above case of the little girl would be one reason. Another reason would be to lessen exposure to those who are immunocompromised...the vaccine doesn't protect them as well as it does the rest of us. I have several friends who fall into that category and quite frankly, I myself may fall into that in the near future. Yeah, they could stay home with a mask on and order all their groceries delivered...but what kind of life is that? We'll never "stamp out" this virus but if we could convince more folks that it's to THEIR advantage and to EVERYONE's advantage perhaps we could suppress it enough to lessen the exposure to at-risk individuals. Yes, there will be changes. We will learn more. There will be new variants. And probably the scientists will figure out vaccines and better ways to fight them...if folks end up trusting them. It will be ongoing. PS...got my Flu Shot Wednesday.
We have one weapon against the Virus and it free, readily available and has been given out millions of times around the world with few side effects. About 99.9% of those in the ICU and dying are unvaccinated. The number of kids infected is increasing. It's just ******* stupid to not get vaxed.
What Is Ivermectin? Put it on the news, and even the circumspect sometimes believe the intentional misinformation. The Ivermectin prescribed is are NOT horse deworming pills.
