Will probably take a lot of work with his schedule. Football at Ohio State is likely to last into January and then there are Spring Drills which come right in the middle of basketball season. Players used to be able to do it, Julius Peppers and Charlie Ward come to mind but even Peppers only did is for a short time because of football obligations. Football/baseball or track seem to work best.
Anybody here feel sorry for Reggie Bush? He wants his Heisman restored since everything he did back then is now legal? Of course, when he did it, he and his family knew they were cheating and did it anyway. I'm disappointed that the Heisman Trust said they'd give it back to him if the NCAA puts him back in its good graces. He's still a cheater.
I see that a Miami booster is going to pay the entire 85 man roster 5K per year to promote his MMA Gym. I expect we'll see a lot more of this type of stuff.
This whole thing could be a boon to minor sports like baseball where the 11 scholarships have to be shared among a roster of 35 players I believe. If you have an interested and deep pocketed booster he could essentially fund the cost of attendance not covered by partial scholarships by doing what the Miami booster is doing.
Wow, didn't take long for the boosters to come out throwing money. It was inevitable, but thought it might take a while to fully ramp up. Oops...
Deep pocket boosters who like to Jock sniff are going to be in clover now, they can pay and be around these kids that they have been following in shadows now out in the open. I do imagine that there will be a course correction for some of them. Some boosters will tire of spending the money for these kids and some kids will burn these boosters.
Yup... and it's only just beginning. Lambert has also started a corporation, called Bring Back The U, that will be solely focused on putting money in the pockets of Miami football players. He said the company will attempt to rally support from local businesses to hire the players as spokesmen. He says he also plans to host fundraising events and then donate the proceeds to any local business that agrees to use the donation to pay for Miami players as spokesmen.
So instead of upgrading the Miami program by hiring better coaches and recruiting better athletes, they're returning to the past path to success.
I've seen some imply that as fans of our team, whatever team you follow, that you now have some sort of obligation to follow more or all of the athletes on their Twitter, Instagram and Tik-Tock accounts so they can build up their social media following and thus earn more NIL money. Sorry I'm just not into any of those and I don't want to be responsible for those players earning more money and thus making my team(s) more attractive to recruits.
Here's a question. If a recruit decides on a school and one of the factors is the NIL opportunities and he takes a flyer on several of them and then later on decides he really doesn't want to play for School X and decommits to go to School Y. What happens to the NIL deals he's struck with boosters of School X?
I would assume that the NIL is sealed with a written contract. I assume that remaining with the school of choice is a part of the deal.
I wonder if NIL deals are going to include morals/behavior clauses that void them with a DUI, Weed arrest, beating up your girlfriend, etc.
These kids are going to be ripe for scams. Hopefully the schools can help them....if they'll let them.
HAHAHAHAHAHA I am sorry if you haven't yet finished grieving for college athletics. Star Ducks DE has NFT deal with Knight, Hatfield
SMU wonders what the big deal is, just because a 5* WR decommits from OU after NIL: Former Oklahoma commit pledges to stay in North Texas
I saw that, Oregon with Phil Knight is seemingly well positioned to have a top NIL situation for their athletes. There is a lot of angst out there I believe with fans worrying about their school doing enough to stay up with the NIL. I get the sense that some feel this is going to be the new big factor in where recruits decide to play in college. It's all so new and nobody really knows how this is going to shake out that it's in a lot of ways become bigger than the game IMHO. That and the easing up of transfer rules are going to have unknown impact on college football. I feel a little bit like chicken little and the sky is falling, worrying about the impact on college football. It'll all sort itself out over time, but the early stages might be a bit painful for some.
Thinking about ND and NIL, it seems to me that there's a good opportunity there for players. ND has a national radio contract and it would seem to me that endorsements for national ads would be rather lucrative.
