PGA tour just changed the rules, and they are no longer testing asymptotic individuals. Rahm did not have symptoms, so Matsuyama must have developed symptoms. I certainly seems foolish for the Pros to not get vaxed. But like the general public there are no doubt some that have various concerns about the vaccine. I wonder if we'll have issues with the Covid Vax status this fall. I don't think many schools have required the players get vaccinated.
I wonder what will happen regarding vaccine requirements once a vaccine gets full FDA approval rather than the emergency approval. I expect more folks arguing for requirement.
Well, Troy Merritt and Cam Davis in a playoff??? I don't.watch.as.much.golf as.I used to but I would not recognize either one of these guys.in a line-up.
I was interested in last week's tournament because of the venue which I knew well. The bigger names in the tournament like DeChambeau, Mickelson and Fowler weren't a factor. During the season there are the "don't miss" weeks ie. majors plus the Players and Tour Championship, the usually watch, Torrey Pines, the Memorial and the World Tour Events and the early playoff events, and then the rest. I have a real tough time with the Heritage at Hilton Head because it's the week after The Masters. The Ryder Cup is much more interesting than the President's Cup.
John Deere Classic this week, the last hope for some players to qualify for the British Open. The field is usually not that great because the better players who have qualified are already in England to get adjusted to the time change and weather, a lot of them play in the Scottish Open this week to get ready.
Angel Cabrera going to prison for 2 years after being convicted of domestic violence. I can't think of another Golf Pro who has ever been sentenced to prison. I wonder if he'll be able to practice? If he can't and truthfully unless he's in a country club prison I can't image that he will, not hitting a golf ball for 2 years and the conviction might be the end of his career. He's been on the Senior Tour of course, but he hasn't been successful.
Wow a two time major champion doing time! Let's face it, he's never been the poster boy for physical fitness. Maybe some time in stir might give him time to work on strength and conditioning.
Been watching some of the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament at Lake Tahoe. It's always a fun tournament to watch IMHO. Leaders are Vinnie Del Negro and Anika Sorensen. She's playing the same tees as the guys. Beautiful venue along the shore of Lake Tahoe. There were some spectators allowed and that gave a boost.
Coming down to the end, Smoltz and Del Negro battling it out with Tony Romo and Anika right on their heels. Anika is 50 and 5'6". Those guys she's battling are also 50ish except for Romo of course who is 40. Those guys are all about 6'3" more than a little size advantage off the tee
Bubba Watson out of the Open due to the UK Covid policy on close contact even though he's vaccinated.
Del Negro wins, Smoltz had a hole I can relate to.. hit his drive into a bad spot, tried a hero shot, hits the tree and then dumps it into the water.. game over. Vinny becomes the 1st basketball player to win the championship. Anika finishes 4th. She's playing in the US Senior Women's Open next in August.
Jim Furyk becomes only the 8th player to win both the US Open and US Senior Open. He joined Jack, Arnie, Lee Trevino, Billy Casper, Gary Player, Hale Irwin, and of course Sargent Orville Moody. Hale is, as far as I know the only big time NCAA football player to make the transition to the PGA tour. But looking at his resume' seems like he was a golfer who also played football not a football player who fooled around a bit with golf. Irwin then attended the University of Colorado, where he was a two-time All-Big Eight defensive back and academic All-American in football. He won the individual NCAA Division I Championship in golf in his senior year in 1967 and turned professional the following year.
Open Week, at Royal St. George. In 1985 Peter Jacobsen tackled a streaker on the green at Royal St. George. He is still pretty proud of it, on the American Century Broadcast he claims that the tackle nicked up the green and he had to putt over it and made bogey!
