ACC Tourney is Pool play leading to semi-finals this weekend. Irish and UVA won both of their first games and will play for the right to move to the semi-finals this weekend. They play the winner of the Miami/FSU game. Longhorns were upset in the Big 12 tourney by West Virginia and now go to the losers bracket and face the loser of OU v OSU to move on. I don't think this tourney will have much impact on the seeding for Texas though.
May 30th is when the NCAA will finalize the hosting sites for the Regionals. They have pre-selected 20 sites and will cut 4 of them. The list has 20 of the potential 16 which include 7 from the SEC, 3 from the Pac 12, 3 Big 12, and even a Jesuit basketball school (Gonzaga) amongst the possiblilities. Division I Baseball Committee announces championship host sites
Irish blasted by UVA today and are out of the ACC tournament. Odd since we swept them at there place when we played this season.
Gators into the semifinals in the SEC, after beating Bama. I think this increases our chances of hosting one of the playoff sites.
Hey Kp, I may be wrong but I believe the Bama - Gator game decided which team was in the final game but the loser was not out. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe Bama and Tennessee are playing with the winner to play Florida for the Championship. Would have to beat the Gators twice. Could be wrong about this.
I think it is single elimination for the final four. So Tennessee vs Florida winner will play Ole Miss vs Arkansas winner for the championship.
Congratulations Kp on the softball team. Gators will have to look forward to next season. SEC baseball, Tennessee defeated the Gators and are in the Championship game against Arkansas, still hoping we get to host a regional.
Alabama baseball will probably have to wait for next year as well. Softball team is on a roll though.
Here are the 16 regional hosts. Five SEC teams and there is no doubt that Bama will play in one of the regionals. Texas South Carolina Oregon Arkansas TCU Florida East Carolina Tennessee Texas Tech Vanderbilt Ole Miss Louisiana Tech Notre Dame Stanford Mississippi State Arizona
Terry, according to an article I read in our local paper, Texas is the #2 seed in the tournament, and ND is the #10 seed:
That's correct Sid, while it's just conjecture, I do believe that the blowout loss to UVA in pool play for the Irish cost them a National seed. Texas also had a great season and was ranked right there with the Irish but while they didn't win the B12 tournament they also didn't get blown out. Bottom line of course for all the teams is now is the time to have it all together, win or go home. No matter what happens this will have been an excellent season for the Irish, I doubt if anybody thought we'd have anywhere close to the season that we had this year. Naturally it'll be a disappointment at this point if we don't win our Regional, but won't really tarnish the job Link Jarrett has done with the program so far.
Gators hosting a Regional and if we win and Texas wins also we would meet in the Super Regional. No surprise to me that Alabama is in, the SEC has quite a few teams in the picture. Lets hope several of them end up in the Final 8.
No doubt that the SEC had a great slate of teams this year. I won't be shocked if as many as 4 SEC teams make the CWS.
