Who knows..... maybe someone will convince Trump to step aside and give someone with a real shot a chance at winning a general election on the GOP side.... DeSantis?...
but otherwise if he does run as I am sure most Democrats would prefer then the GOP is toast in a general election. Trump has been that galvanizing for the GOP nomination and that polarizing for a general election win. His continual promotion of The Big Lie regarding the Nov. election just will not win him ANY new friends or supporters.
"A new Quinnipiac University national poll illustrates this waiting catastrophe well.
In the survey, two-thirds of Republicans (66%) said they would like to see Trump run for president again, while just 30% would prefer he not. Numbers like that -- albeit several years before the GOP presidential primary begins in earnest -- suggest there remains significant appetite for Trump within the GOP and broadly confirm what lots of other data has shown: That the 45th president would start a 2024 Republican primary as the clear front-runner.
Which is a BIG problem for Republicans because of this number: 66% of the general electorate does NOT want to see Trump run for president again in 2024. And yes, that number includes the two-thirds of Republicans who want Trump to run! Just 6% of Democrats say they would like to see Trump run again in 2024, while just 1 in 4 independents (27%) say the same.
The story is the same when you look at Trump's favorable numbers in the same poll. While 84% of Republicans say they have a favorable opinion of the former president, his overall favorable rating is a meager 37%, with 4% of Democrats and just 35% of independents feeling favorably toward him.
It does not take a mathematician or a political science professor to see what these numbers mean: Trump is nearly unbeatable in a Republican primary and damn near unelectable in a general election.

A poll in May of 2021 about the 2024 election how pathetic are Trump haters? Meanwhile Biden's budget contains no mention of forgiveness of student loans, another in a long string of lies. His border security guy states the border is closed as thousands cross illegally every week. Another lie. Biden ends a serious investigation of the source of the Covid virus and then appoints some week partisan to nose around. What did we expect from this Mandarin Candidate? Biden restores millions in foreign aid to the Palestinians and a short time later after a shopping trip to the Iranian arms store, they start firing rockets into Israel. And speaking of Iran how far do Kerry and Biden have their heads up the Ayatollah's ass? They must be getting paid off handsomely to sell out the US and our Middle East allies by getting sanctions lifted off Iran. Gas is now at its highest since 2014 the "good old" Obama years and while things go to hell and a handcart, the ignorant and delusional focus on Trump.

More Trump posts....since you are a big Biden supporter how about some Biden posts! But then I guess you spend most of your time scouring the internet for Trump stories.

That approach is what an intelligent person with a real interest in reality would do, but then there are people who dwell on the negative side of people he doesn't like.

Actually I believe that there is a fear by Trump haters that he could win again so tearing him down is their approach.

Frankly it doesn't matter what Biden does or doesn't do if Trump is the GOP nominee.

And that is the huge dilemma that faces the GOP leadership at present. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't when it comes to embracing another presidential run by Trump in 2024.

And to further complicate the general election message the GOP has to contend with the crazies from Marjorie Taylor Greene to this bat **** crazy group of unfortunate people who identify themselves as Republicans:

"About one-quarter of Republicans, 23%, agree with a set of conspiratorial beliefs linked to the QAnon movement, according to a PRRI report released Thursday. These believers said they mostly or completely agreed that "the government, media, and financial worlds in the U.S. are controlled by a group of Satan-worshipping pedophiles who run a global child sex trafficking operation," that "there is a storm coming soon that will sweep away the elites in power and restore the rightful leaders," and, finally, that "because things have gotten so far off track, true American patriots may have to resort to violence in order to save our country."

    Scary ****.....

Can't quit worrying about Trump can you Dave.

As a liberal Democrat I would think that you would be more focused on the current President, rather than some one who is highly unlikely to reelected to the Oval Office.

Speaking of batshit crazies you have to be living in a cave or watching CNN to not realize what human debris the “Squad” is. Then there’s Maxine Waters...

Terry I'm concerned for the Republican party in general.

We need a functioning two party system in our government and in the past few years the GOP is leaving the train track. No better example than the lunatic fringe of Q'Anon as one with the steady autocratic "stolen election/suppress the vote" drumbeats of Trump not far behind.

The fact that most of you don’t seem alarmed by Jan. 6th. or by the Q anon faction of the GOP maintaining such a large contingent speaks volumes of where the GOP is headed. That plus the insane belief that Trump is still the president. Yes liberals in the past have had their fair share of fringe members but those loonies did not control the party or come close to it as does an ex-president claiming a stolen election lie and who embraces every crazy or violent sub group of the party just because they would vote for him. Good luck winning over the general electorate with such a dysfunctional dishonest mix of a platform.

    In a nutshell:
"Greene, a Republican from Georgia, "is, unfortunately, not unique in a party that increasingly attracts xenophobes, misogynists, conspiracy theorists and crackpots," Jill Filipovic pointed out. "The party can choose a different and brighter future. Or it can continue to walk the dangerous path laid by the former president (and vocal Greene supporter), Donald Trump."
Zoom out, and the overall picture is disturbing, wrote Frida Ghitis, "Countless Republican leaders either declare or refuse to deny the Big Lie, the claim that the election was stolen. Tens of millions of Republicans erroneously believe Trump won. Almost one-quarter of Republicans believe it may become necessary to use violence to 'save the country.' Then they are told by Republican outrage peddlers that the US Constitution protects their right to own firearms for the purpose of rising up against the government. And then -- the match to start lighting the fuse -- they are told that Democrats are similar to Nazis.
"If that's not the recipe for disaster -- not just for Republicans but for the entire country -- tell me what it is."

Just what you want Dave, you think about Trump 24/7 and worry he'll be back. Your socialist agenda is all that you care about.

Terry I don't believe there is any mention of a "socialist agenda" in that rundown of dangerous ailments that exist in the GOP.
Deflection and equalism ( also the tools of conservative media ) are the chief reasons why erstwhile policy driven Republicans like yourself turn your head and look the other way in order to ignore or even worse defend these fringe or outrageous elements of the party.

It's amazing to me that we were a safer, self sufficient, Self reliant country just 3 years ago, and probably the strongest we've been in sometime, yet it's still not appreciated. In less than a year we've hit the brakes and threw it in reverse. That's not leadership, that's a driven self destruction plan by clueless and false agenda officials who have forgotten history, and want to erase the chalkboard, and rewrite it with a vision that will NEVER work. Our forefathers knew that, and would be ashamed of what has transpired lately. Ashamed, embarrased, and like the rest of us Americans...very very concerned.

Almost one quarter of the Republican party now support Q Anon conspiracy insanity. That is the kind of crazy **** that should concern you AJ.

"Myanmar’s military seized power Feb. 1 and imprisoned the country’s democratically elected leaders, on the basis of unproven allegations of voter fraud. At least 800 civilians have died, and thousands have been arrested, in protests that have wracked the Southeast Asian nation in the months that followed.

Supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory have praised the Myanmar coup and called for the U.S. military to do the same, citing unsubstantiated claims of election fraud."

What I hate is ignorance, conspiracy fantasy and those that would impose their own beliefs and will on others illegally without following the laws of our democracy and the Constitution.... for which today we memorialize so many brave Americans who gave their lives to protect and sustain those American institutions, freedom and our civilized way of life.

I keep reading this parroting (by lots of lib writers) of some poll showing that 25% of Republicans buy into Q-Anon ****, and 25% believe that violence will be necessary to "save the country." If not buying into that statistic means I'm "turning my head" then I guess I plead guilty. I don't believe it for one second. Seems like another one of those factoids that become "collective wisdom" because they just keep getting repeated. Dave you continue to be the master of telling us what we believe instead of addressing any concerns we bring up.

Well Stu... Trump said the pre-election polls weren't correct..... that he couldn't lose and yet the polls correctly predicted his defeat and generally by the margin that he lost by. That in essence drives his Big Lie.... the polls weren't correct..... no way he could lose..... so the Dems must have cheated. If he does run in 2024 once again the polls ( of eligible voters ) will show that he is far far behind..... and he will again set it up for claiming it's an election scam etc. etc. when he loses except for one dangerous variant..... he will have spent the next 4 years continuing to whip up his white nationalist base into a violent frenzy..... and we could have more benign "tourists" taking a "calm stroll" inside the Capitol building on Jan. 6th. But those insurrectionists shouldn't look for Joe Biden to just turn his head and look the other way in complicity with their actions this time as did Trump.
