Re: Del Crandall. I had his baseball card. I'm pretty sure he was with the Milwaukee Braves when he caught those two no-hitters. I remember 4 Braves' pitchers, Spahn, Burdette, Gene Conley and Joey Jay. Jay was the first Little Leaguer to make it to MLB. Conley was a two-sport player who also played with the Boston Celtics in the NBA. I went to Wikipedia to confirm some memories and was reminded that in 1954 Joe Adcock had hit 4 HR in one game. I also learned that 1954 was the Braves' second season in Milwaukee and the franchise's 84th season overall. If this all isn't enough trivia, I distinctly remember that the first-ever cover of Sports Illustrated was a panoramic photo of Eddie Matthews batting in Milwaukee County Stadium.

Joel,, you’re talking about the Boston Braves, right? I have no memory of them. I was 8 yrs old when they moved to Milwaukee, which is when I became familiar with them. By the way, you might remember 6’8” Gene Conley playing for the Celtics.
sid..the boston braves played 8 miles up commonwealth ave from fenway. they had some great players that i remember in late 30s,40,s 50s. Sam Jepthro sp one of first blacks sid gordon warren Spahn johnny sain tommy holmes..and yes i saw conley play for celts and braves . the saying spahn and sain and praay for rain...for a few years they were the best pitchers in the game. boston braves had some very loyal fans

Wade Miley throws the seasons 4th No Hitter vs Cleveland last night. This is the earliest in a calendar year there have been four no-hitters since 1917, when the fourth was thrown on May 5 and the fifth on May 6, and only the second season overall in MLB history to have four no-hitters before the end of May, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. It's no wonder: Hitters entered Friday batting a record-low .233 this season.
I have John Means on my fantasy team. When he pitched his no-hitter, I rose from 5th to 2nd place. I DROPPED Wade Miley a week ago. Had to, based on his early performance. If I had kept him, I'd be in 1st place today. As they say in Brooklyn, Dem's da breaks.
Ok...got my own answer from this morning's paper... Indians are the third team in history to be no-hit in their first 31 games. The others were the 1884 Pittsburgh Alleghenys and the 1917 Chicago White Sox (who won the Series that year led by Shoeless Joe. Eighteen teams have been no-hit twice in a season. No team has ever been no-hit three times in a season...here's another chance for the Tribe to make history (sigh).
Cleveland has great pitching...especially bullpen and top three starters. McKenzie (fourth starter) has had a couple really good outings and a couple stinkers. Offense has been a struggle but has been coming around lately, especially late in games. Have vastly outscored opponents after 6th inning and have the most runs in majors after 6th inning (I think that's correct...saw the stat on TV.) Defense has been suspect at times, partly because of moving players around a bit but Tito likes versatility.
What's happened to JO'Co's Dodgers? They have slipped to 3rd in the NL West. Injuries? Astros had an interesting series with Toronto, Craig Biggio's son (Cavan) plays for the Blue Jays and hit his first home run in Minute Maid Park where as a kid he watched his dad become a hall of famer. George Springer wasn't available for the series, I'm sure he'd have been given a rousing cheer, he was very popular and there wasn't any animosity when he left. Pujols to the Dodgers. They're paying him the prorated league minimum, which is 2% of his $30 million salary. The Angels are paying him the other 98%. Just having his wisdom in the clubhouse and dugout is worth far more than what they're paying him.
